Graphical persona for end user target market:

Graph 1

Because we were thinking of ourselves as the typical user for our market, we decided to choose an international student as our persona. Although international student is not the biggest population on campus, as a diversity university international student still occupy a certain proportion. And we describe he as a very typical university student who has passion in protecting the environment. Because of the college offering iPad to every freshman, so we add ipad as one of the devices except for iphone. For the technology part he might be over the average, he is familiar with electronic productions and was able to programming. And for hobbies are pretty normal, like to play, exercise and study.

User Needs Scored Chart:

Table 2

(Updated 9/22/2019 due to primary research)

These user needs were chosen with the idea of the pains and gains associated with our task in mind. We wanted to create a solution that was available to all users, showcasing the certain user needs such as it being simple, reliable, convenient, and cheap. Also when brainstorming for possible solutions, it felt important to include certain user needs that were expected to have low results, such as stylistic and interconnectivity, in order to better gage what our user is looking into a solution, and how it could possibly be modeled in the future.

Pairwise Comparison Chart:

Table 3

(Updated 9/22/2019 due to primary research)

The pairwise comparison chart works so that the team is able to identify and compare two different user needs to one another, and determine which of the user need is more important to the target audience. In the chart, we can see that the most important user need for our target market is that the solution is effective, and is environmentally conscious. The user places a lower emphasis on how interconnective and stylistic the solution is compared to the other values within the chart, so our team will keep that in mind and will likely be more simplistic and individualized in design. Being that the target audience is college students, we acknowledge that the other strong values in the comparison chart, being convenient, cheap, long term, and reliable, are also essential to our design process.

Market Character

Stakeholders:

If there was a solution to reduce car emissions, car production and consumption could potentially increase since those who have chosen not to purchase or use a car due to the environmental impact may purchase one out of convenience now. Another major stakeholder would be those who rely on an individual car to get someplace everyday, since if there are more cars on the road, traffic will increase. If part of the solution was to reduce the amount of cars on the road, public transport would become a major stakeholder, since the private car wouldn’t be encouraged, leading to an influx in citizens utilizing the public transport. Another major stakeholder would be the surrounding environment. With the reduction of car emissions, the air and water quality can be improved so that the environment will become more sustainable, and improve the lives of everything that lives within it, including humans. The government is responsible for improving the environment. With the increasing amount of the daily car emissions, they will get more focus and have the power to make the relevant policy to restrict the daily car emissions. In addition, the government will strongly support the construction of public transport which will also alleviate car emissions. Lastly, companies may try to take advantage of the solution and create company buses, a bus that is used for company to pick up and drop off employees regularly.

Market Size:

Our current market size would be the entire student population of The Ohio State University, which as of Autumn 2018, has 61,170 students.
