Mentor Interview

For my mentor interview, I interviewed one of peer mentors. I asked Evan Purdie about himself, and he gave me great responses that allowed me to get to know him. We discussed his major and his interests. He is undecided right now, but he is looking towards majoring in Public Affairs – Public Administration, with a minor in Spanish and Business. He discussed how he likes to serve people and how he wants to have a job where he does not sit in a desk all day. In his free time he enjoys working out, hanging out with friends, and watching sports. Evan chose OSU because he likes the feel of campus, but he is also right next the city. Lastly we discussed why he wanted to be a member of PSL. He chose PSL because he was interested in a career in the legal field and he thought it provided excellent opportunities. I really enjoyed discussing with Evan what makes him Evan and his interests.

G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: One goal that have have for enhancing my global awareness is to have a study abroad experience. I would love to study abroad for a semester or for a summer session. This would allow me to strengthen my global awareness and to study in another country to learn their culture and traditions.

Original Inquiry: During my time at The Ohio State University I have the desire to be involved in a campus research project. I would love to be involved in a STEM research project. I am interested in applying for research positions the spring of 21′ and more research positions throughout my sophomore, junior, and senior year.

Academic Enrichment: I have the goal of maintaining a GPA as close as I possibly can to 4.0. I understand that I might have a very challenging class during my time at OSU that I am not able to get an A in. However, I am determined to attempt and get a GPA as close as I can to a 4.0.

Leadership Development: I am looking forward to joining many different clubs at The Ohio State University. After being a member of a club for my freshman and sophomore years, I would like to apply for a leadership position.

Service Engagement: A goal I have for myself is to complete 100 hours of volunteer work during my undergraduate years. I would love to do some of my service work through volunteering at a hospital or something to do with medicine.

About Me

Hello!! My name is Emma Atwood and I am very excited to be currently attending The Ohio State University as a freshman.

My intended major is psychology and biochemistry. However, I am still considering my major, and I am thinking about dropping the psychology major and focusing on a STEM major. One of my academic interests is science. I have always enjoyed taking science classes in high school and I have so far enjoyed taking General Chemistry at OSU. Engineering is another interest of mine. I am currently taking Introduction to Engineering to fully understand if it is something I would like to continue studying over the next four years. So far, I have been very interested by the course and I am thinking about studying it further. I have the academic goal of maintaining a GPA of as close to 4.0 as I am able to during my college journey. In addition, I have the personal goal of fully figuring out who I am and what interest me. One thing that makes me unique is my determination. When I am determined to accomplish something, no matter how hard the task, I am able to accomplish it. I am immensely looking forward to the new academic and personal experiences that I will have over these next four years!
