Global Awareness
I plan on fostering a greater sense of global awareness by pursuing coursework relevant to my International Development minor while also completing research on global health equity. Moreover, I hope to study abroad–perhaps in Ireland or the Middle East–to build upon my worldly experiences. Freshman year, I also took a World Cinema course where we watched films spanning several distinct cultures (i.e. Chinese, French, Spanish, Iranian, Korean, etc.) and time periods, with a heavy concentration on socio-political movements. For example, we watched a French film called Cache, which features the French massacre of Pro-Algerian Nationalist protestors on the Seine River in 1961.
Original Inquiry
Biomedical Science offers me ample opportunities to pursue original health-related research and is actually imbedded into the major. Also, as an Eminence Fellow, I must complete an Honors Thesis to satisfy my requirements over the four years.
Academic Enrichment
As a Biomedical Science student, I am presented with an extremely rigorous set of coursework and research opportunities that I must complete throughout my four years. Additionally, by coupling this STEM-heavy major with an International Development minor and potentially an Arabic minor as well, I am cultivating a well-rounded and diverse set of skills that will benefit me in my post-undergraduate endeavors.
Leadership Development
Currently, I am the President of Students for Justice in Palestine and I am co-founder of EcoSpace–an organization that hopes to provide free public access to environmental health data on a user-friendly interface to community members in Columbus, OH.
Service Engagement
Fortunately, Eminence imbeds service right into my university coursework and experience. For the next couple of years, my peers and I will collaborate to build a service project that meets a significant need in the Columbus area: limited access to environmental data regarding the health of their respective communities.
