New Astronomy Webinar Series

Just because we can’t meet in person doesn’t mean we don’t still have exciting opportunities for you! Starting this Thursday (April 2) at 3 PM and continuing weekly at the same time, Anna Voelker, the Department of Astronomy’s Public Outreach Coordinator will be hosting a new astronomy webinar series. Titled Making Space For All, it will be focusing on featuring the work of underrepresented scientists and students in the astronomy community.

The first episode will feature Dr. Ami Choi, who will be discussing dark matter. You can use this link to join us for this public Q&A and interview. Hope to see you there!

Telescope Training

Anna Voelker and Dr. Rick Pogge will be hosting a telescope training session on Friday, February 28 at 11:15 in McPherson 4054 (our usual meeting room). If you’re interested in learning how to operate a telescope, please fill out this form!

You can also fill out the firm if you can’t make it to this training but would still like to stay informed of upcoming astronomy outreach opportunities.

1/23/20 Executive Board Meeting

Elections to the Executive Board for the 2020-21 academic year will be occurring in the coming weeks. In the spirit of that, we will be holding an open E-Board meeting on Thursday, January 23 at 6:00 PM in McPherson 4054, where we will be planning out the rest of the semester. Anyone who is interested in running for a position and would like to see how our E-Board functions is strongly encouraged to attend.

OSAA Public Lecture

Today (Thursday, December 5), at 8PM in Smith Lab 1153, Drs. David Weinberg and Scott Gaudi will be presenting the Ohio State Astronomy and Astrophysics public lecture, “Our Place in the Universe: The 2019 Nobel Prize in Physics”. They will be discussing the research that led to this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics: the large-scale structure of the universe and the discovery of the first extrasolar planet around a Sun-like star. We won’t be hosting a formal get-together due to it being Reading Day, but this lecture is sure to be very interesting, so come on out!
