During Mid-September of 2015, I participated in a photo shoot with a student organization (STAE). The organization was founded and is led by my RA, which is how I got involved in the first place. It took place on the Oval and around Mirror Lake. I went around with a couple of models and musicians to take portrait shots of them to add to their portfolios. This event is particularly important to me because photography is an important hobby of mine. However, I had never done portrait photography before and thought this event would be a good introduction to it, especially since my RA needed another photographer for the day. Being exposed to a different type of photography helped to improve my photography skills and it opened me up to the possibility of portrait photography jobs in the future. I also improved my management skills with this event, as I helped with some of the planning and organization.

This is a picture of my record player that I got for Christmas 2014. Although I do not use my record player all the time, I brought it with me to college and occasionally listen to a record or two. My record player is especially important to me because it represents my love of music as well as discovering new and old songs. I also believe this translates to me as a person; I love discovering new things, whether it’s something in physics class or a old Cleveland Orchestra performance of Ravel’s “Pictures at an Exhibition”.

About Me

Hi! My name is Michael Ashbrook and I am from Bay Village, Ohio, which is a suburb of Cleveland. I went to St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio, which is also a suburb of Cleveland. I was part of the International Baccalaureate Programme (IB) at St. Ed’s, which is similar to AP classes. At OSU, my major is Engineering Undecided. I live in Torres House on North Campus and am part of the Humanitarian Engineering Scholars Program. I enjoy photography and film, as well as music. I play the trumpet, but I enjoy listening to music more than playing it. I also like playing sports (basketball, football, baseball, soccer, frisbee) and the outdoors in general.
