About Me

Alex Art Headshot

Hello! My name is Alex Art, and I am very excited to be attending The Ohio State University this fall to study engineering!  Ever since I can remember, I’ve enjoyed designing and tinkering with various things.  When I was younger, this meant playing with Legos and other design and construction oriented toys.  Occasionally, I still find myself digging out my old Legos and fiddling around with them as a guilty pleasure!  In high school, I took four engineering courses where I learned all about the field and found that this career path is one that greatly suits me due to my aforementioned interest in design.  At OSU, I am eager to learn more about engineering and to discern which of the many interesting branches I wish to declare in by the end of the year.  I am also excited to form connections with students and faculty that will assist me in my academic career and beyond.  Hopefully by the end of my time at OSU I will have completed numerous co-ops and internships that will lay the groundwork for my career.

My academic interests also expand beyond just engineering itself.  Both inside and outside of the classroom I take a great interest in learning how the world works.  I have been interested in the sciences ever since I was a kid, and between the internet and school I find myself learning something new every day.  I also am greatly intrigued by current events both political and cultural, and therefore I try to remain up to date about what is going on in the world.  I cannot wait to take advantage of OSU’s vast resources to further my pursuit of knowledge.

Outside of academics, I have a few hobbies that I enjoy.  In addition to being the occasional Netflix viewer, I also enjoy running distance.  I ran cross-country and track all four years of high school and plan to be actively involved in the running club here at OSU.  I also hope to run in either the Columbus half-marathon or full-marathon this October.  In addition to being an avid runner, I am also a model train junkie. I owning a collection of electric trains that began when I was four and continues to grow with each passing year; one that includes merchandise made in the early-1950’s and items catalogued in the past couple of years.

Essentially, I am an academically driven person who enjoys learning in addition to a myriad of other things.  I look forward to a great semester full of experiences and people both new and old!

Year in Review
