APOP at Nosker House!

Last night APOP members Kendra Weinrich and Mark Hubbe spent time with students at Nosker House! They did the Food, Football, and Human Variation activity with an incredible array of international food that was provided by the RAs!! Big thanks to our awesome volunteers and of course to Nosker House & their RAs for having us – and providing super delish food! 🤤🤤🤤

COSI After Dark: Halloween

Don’t forget – tomorrow evening at 6:00 pm APOP will be attending the COSI After Dark: Halloween event showing off some cool science carts!! Tell your friends and family to come find us tomorrow night to show our lovely volunteers some support, learn something cool about anthropology and enjoy some spoopy brews! 👻🍻👻Hope to see you there!

As of yesterday, APOP ran their 100th activity!!! APOP has been up and running for just a little over two years and the time and dedication that our team has put in in this short amount of time is amazing. They rock! 😍😍

APOP at Eastland!

Some of the APOP crew made a visit to Mr. Short’s anatomy and physiology class at Eastland Career Center this past Monday.

A big thank you to our wonderful volunteers Liv Menear, Drew Hardin, Malorie Albee, and Brittany Wexler for taking the time to help teach people about anthropology!! This is what APOP is all about! 🥰

Brittany Wexler at Metro High!

Huge shout out to our rockstar volunteer and board member Brittany Wexler for sharing her experience working at archaeological site Zorita de los Canes in Spain with 6th graders at Metro Early College High School yesterday! And a huge thank you to Kabe Eichenauer’s class at Metro for having her! Hopefully experiences like this will help younger generations explore the wide range of career paths awaiting them. ☺️

Thank you Columbus Metro Library – Whitehall!

We can’t thank Haja Kabia and the rest of the staff at Columbus Metropolitan Library – Whitehall Branch‘s after school program enough for hosting a special archaeology day with us this Friday! It was an honor to work with all of your brilliant young participants! We can’t wait to see them again next semester! 😍 Major thanks also go out to our volunteers. Nick Wilkins, Sarah Negron, and Craig Shapiro, you ROCK! If you haven’t checked out the new Whitehall Library yet we highly recommend it! Click here! ☺️

Body Farms Explained! :)

Do raccoons have a preference on what they scavenge? How does our environment and what we consume in our lifetime affect how we decompose? In this bonus episode of “A Story of Us”, we talk with forensic anthropologist Dr. Dawnie Wolfe- Steadman, and hear about her research at the Forensic Anthropology Center at University of Tennessee, Knoxville (a.k.a The Body Farm) where she works with donated bodies to inform science and criminal justice. From this, we recognize Anthropology’s multiple disciplines and raise the broader questions about the human body and culture!
