During my time in the Dublin City Schools Biomedical Research Academy, one of the components of the program was developing and following through a year-long capstone research experiment. This research poster is the culmination of my first experience involved in designing and following through with a hypothesis developed by me. The research was done on a topic that highly interests me, which was the effects of sleep deprivation amongst high school-aged students. The hypothesis was carried out in experiments by administering a high-level IQ test which students took to similar versions of, once while rested for 7-9 hours and once while rested for no more than 4 hours. Heart rate was measured and the results disproved the original hypothesis which stated that if a student would be well rested, they would show a lower heart-rate. However, the results showed that students who were deprived of sleep on a regular basis had a lower heart-rate when they slept for less than 4 hours rather than when they slept for 7-9 hours, having higher heart rates.casestudy-2
