While the Fisher School of Business’s slogan is “Go Beyond”, that phrase has held meaning to me long before becoming a Fisher Direct. During my junior and senior year of high school I was the President of the nonprofit called Go Beyond Barrington, an organization dedicated to empowering communities in need. Each year our organization would choose a beneficiary to focus our efforts on and we would spend the year raising funds as well as awareness before spending our spring break volunteering for the organization. As President, I was in charge of running board meetings, fundraising, donation campaigns, and speaking on behalf of our organization. During my two year presidency we were able to donate $20,000 on behalf of Washington Tornado Relief Fund, and Pathfinders of Milwaukee. While this accomplishment sounds great on paper, this was no easy task to accomplish.
After being involved with this organization for two years, I thought that my presidency would only be a small time addition. I thought that my presidency would only be a small step up from my vice presidency. I could not have been more wrong. Through my presidency I realized the importance of group unity and harmony, but realized that if I were to always be pleasing everyone, then I would be doing my job wrong. I realized that results and outcomes matter, but the journey to get there is just as important in a different aspect. Ultimately through trial and error I learned about all of the fine lines that make up the world around me. I learned that they’re are no absolutes but at the end of the day, hard work pays off.
