Year in Review
- To develop my Global Awareness while at Ohio State, I have applied and been accepted to the Global May Spain trip through the university. This May I will spend time in Madrid, Spain, while living with a host family. I will also be traveling to other cities surrounding Madrid and will be completing a course that studies the history and culture of Spain. As the name of the trip suggests, this will be a fantastic way to broaden my global awareness and to be immersed into a culture that is very different from the one at Ohio State. Living with a Spanish family will give me great insight into the different customaries and ways of life in Spain. Another benefit of this trip is the opportunity to improve my Spanish speaking skills and practice speaking with locals.
- Due to my recent focus in other areas of the GOALS in my first year I have not had too many opportunities to achieve this goal. I do however plan to keep and strive for my original goal in this category. I plan to seek and reach out to professors to find a position in a research lab. I originally wanted to find a position in a neuroscience lab but since taking microbiology this semester I am now interested in looking for a position in a microbiology lab.
- The planned curriculum of my Honors Contract meets the requirements for a bachelor of science degree in the honors college of arts and sciences with a major in neuroscience and a minor in Spanish and for prerequisite courses for physician assistant school. My goal is to become a physician assistant and I believe this coursework is the best path for me to achieve this goal.
- I have been a member of an organization called 1girl, where I mentor middle school girls in inner-city Columbus schools about leadership and empowerment during an after-school program. My involvement in this organization has tremendously improved my leadership skills by constantly giving me an opportunity to practice them and also to teach them to younger girls who look up to me and the other Ohio State students in the organization. Developing my leadership skills will be a benefit in my career goal of a physician assistant as in many situations I will have to take the lead.
- I am an advisor in the youth group at Worthington Presbyterian Church, where I grew up attending. On Sunday evenings I attend the youth group and help to lead the activities that have been planned for the day and I interact with the youth. I plan to continue with this role throughout college because I love interacting with the kids especially because I used to be one of them who used to look up to the college students who would help out.
