Relation to Themes Discussed in Class
The Otavalo people and their globalization in Ecuador is very related to the items we discussed in class this semester. There were many different themes we discussed in class throughout the semester as we have discussed many different things. A few important things are colonization, invasion, textiles, industry, economy, trade, transnationalism, capital economy. All of these themes/items we have discussed in class this semester that are mentioned above, are directly related to The Otavalo People and their Globalization in Ecuador.
The Otavalo were invaded, and were colonized. We spent much time talking about the invasion by the spaniards over the Inca. This was done in the Otavalo region which is why it directly relates to their people. The Spaniards as discussed in class, invaded these regions, and cities, and colonized in them.
The Otavalo and textiles are tied together very tightly. The Inca were known for their textiles, artwork, and designs. This relates to the Otavalo as they were known for their markets, their goods and crafts produced. This all ties into industry, economy, and trade that we have been discussing in class about the various groups.
The Otavalo people and their globalization could definitely be included under the term transnationalism which is a theme we have discussed in class.
