Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: Study abroad Maymester is something of serious interest to me. This year however, I am interested in attending the Mount Scholars trip to North Carolina to help with social justice issues in education and more.

Original Inquiry: As of now I do not have much interest in individual research but am interested in doing research through a hospital to learn from others. The James would be an ideal place of research as cancer research is something I am passionate about.

Academic Enrichment: While my major is currently Health Sciences with a minor in Biology (Pre-Med), I am very interested in trying to take on a Leadership Studies minor to develop my leadership skills more as well as to make myself more well rounded.

Leadership Development: Leadership development at such a large university can be a challenge which is why I joined Mount Leadership Society Scholars Program. Joining sub committees and taking on roles inside the program is a way I am personally trying to develop my leadership here. I also joined the Red Cross Club of OSU and plan to work my way up in the organization to someday hold a leadership position in it.

Service Engagement: With being in Mount comes great responsibility in service, but it is also something I am passionate about doing. Through Red Cross I have had the opportunity to serve others as well. This is something I would love to expand in my time here at OSU though and gain more service experiences that I may otherwise not have had the chance to experience.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.   For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. quote

This quote is a reminder to me to always keep going. I aspire to go to some type of grad schooling or professional school after undergrad in a health field. While this is a difficult track and the workload is a lot, 10 years from now I am going to look back and not regret the time it took to get to where I want to be in life.

For Mount we receive a “Mega” over the summer to help us with the transition into college. Sarah Vretas is my Mega and I can honestly say I don’t know what I would have done without her first semester. All summer she answered any annoying question I had and when I got to college she was always there anytime I needed her. I am so grateful to of had her and am so lucky to have gained such an amazing friend.

My final artifact is skis. While I enjoy skiing and find it challenging and fun, it means a lot more to me than this. My family has always gone on ski trips together for as long as I can remember. It is something I enjoy doing with friends, but more cherish doing with my family. They are my biggest supporters and motivators and having this special thing that we all enjoy makes it something I hold close to my heart.

About Me

My name is Lauren Ames and I am a first year here at The Ohio State University. Choosing OSU was an easy decision for me being born and raised to love the Buckeyes and the football tradition. After being accepted to the university and scholars program I constantly debated about which program to choose. I decided on Mount Leadership Society and it is the best decision I have made along with choosing to attend this beautiful school.

I grew up in the small, homey, lovely town of Wilmington, Ohio. It is located about 50 minutes southwest of here. In high school I was actively involved in student government, leadership positions, and community service organizations which is why Mount seemed like the perfect fit for me. Service has always been a part of my life and it is something I am passionate about always continuing.

My major is Health Sciences with a minor in Biology on a Pre-Medicine track. Someday I aspire to be a Pediatrician or any medical profession that has the privilege of working with and helping others.
