Global Awareness: Becoming more aware of the people around you and backgrounds from which they come from is a major part of learning more about Global Awareness. It is important to start small and begin to understand how others make up the culture we are immersed in. I would like to take more time during my college career to learn more about people and what makes them unique. This allows for a better understanding and perception of the world around us. I hope that by dedicating time to hear from a diverse group of people, I will gain new insight on the experiences and viewpoints of others.

Original Inquiry: Some of the best learning that can be done is through trial and error. While it is very important to learn from the mistakes and successes of others through textbooks and articles, it is just as important to make some discoveries of your own. Whether it be in a lab or just in everyday life, it is imperative that we challenge ourselves and think outside of the box. I have made it a personal goal of mine to make some discoveries of my own throughout my Ohio State experience in order to learn and gain new insight. I feel that I am accomplishing this task little by little as I gain new experiences through my social, volunteer, and academic settings.

Academic Enrichment: Challenging yourself academically is imperative to gaining something from the college experience. While it may be simpler to choose a major that you find is easy, it is important to do something you are passionate about so that you can gain pertinent knowledge. Taking the path less traveled may be difficult, but, ultimately, it is rewarding. By dedicating myself to my schoolwork, I know that I am putting myself in a position to achieve all of my academic goals. I plan to continue putting all efforts towards my studies and becoming knowledgeable in a field I am passionate about.

Leadership Development: Becoming a leader is a privilege that comes with a great amount of responsibility. I feel that in order to become a good leader, we must understand that being the person in charge does no necessarily mean being the only person with a voice. Leaders must be open to collaboration and hearing everyone’s perspective. I plan to develop this skill through practice while at college. As a committee chair for The Mount Leadership Society Alumni Relations Committee, I hope to gain new insight and experiences that will help me to develop and become a more successful leader.

Service Engagement: Service is a large part of what we believe in as scholars of Mount Leadership Society. I plan to dedicate a lot of my time to serving others in the community and helping those around me in whatever way I can. At this moment in time, my ultimate goal is to complete my Year of Service Project. I want to complete 75 hours of consistent service at two locations throughout my second year of college.
