Career
In order to prepare for my future endeavors, I have dedicated a lot of my time to becoming a better leader, establishing relationships with others, and taking on new responsibilities in addition to my education.
This summer, I plan to travel to the Dominican Republic and serve those in need of Dental Care as an undergraduate volunteer. Additionally, I plan to continue my long-help summer job as a camp counselor and shadow various dentists locally. I feel that these experiences will help me to develop my passion for dentistry, while my camp job will allow me to stay in touch with my roots.
My greatest strengths, as noted by others, are my ability to empathize with others, my drive and my intuition. I believe that by using these skills in conjunction with one another and in conjunction with the people I work with, I will be successful in achieving my goals.
Below I have attached my resume, detailing what I have been involved with over the last several years:
Artifacts
In the image above is my Mount Leadership T-shirt. I chose this artifact because it represents my induction into a very close knit group of students here at OSU. Becoming part of the Mount Leadership Society was a major factor in my decision to enroll as an out of state student at The Ohio State University and is a community I am so grateful to have as an incoming freshman. Through this scholars program, I have formed lasting relationships while serving my community and growing as a person. I am and will continue to be proud of this accomplishment and look forward to the opportunities Mount brings in the future.
About Me
Hi there!
My name is Brianna Alves and I am currently a freshman at The Ohio State University. During my high school years, I was always very involved in my school and community through volunteer work and service. I believe that this paved the way for my acceptance into my scholars program here at Ohio State. During high school, I was a member of the National Honors Society, Spanish National Honors Society, Spanish club, choir, Vice President of Peer Leaders and a varsity member of the winter and spring track team. Though I am very proud of all my accomplishments in high school and truly believe that these extraciriculars helped to shape me as a person today, I hope to start fresh in college with a brand new assortment of activities and extracurriculars that will continue to broaden my horizons and make me a better version of myself.
Mount Leadership Society is an organization that I am very proud to be a part of and plan to dedicate much of my time to. I believe that being a part of this scholars group will grant me many opportunities to make a big school feel small by becoming more involved in the Ohio State and Columbus community.
In addition to leadership and service, I am also very passionate about my school work. I am a Neuroscience pre-major with a pre-dental focus. I enjoy working hard and achieving my goals.
Ultimately, I plan to make the most of the next four years as a Buckeye. Can’t wait to tell you more about it!

G.O.A.L.S.
Global Awareness: Becoming more aware of the people around you and backgrounds from which they come from is a major part of learning more about Global Awareness. It is important to start small and begin to understand how others make up the culture we are immersed in. I would like to take more time during my college career to learn more about people and what makes them unique. This allows for a better understanding and perception of the world around us. I hope that by dedicating time to hear from a diverse group of people, I will gain new insight on the experiences and viewpoints of others.
Original Inquiry: Some of the best learning that can be done is through trial and error. While it is very important to learn from the mistakes and successes of others through textbooks and articles, it is just as important to make some discoveries of your own. Whether it be in a lab or just in everyday life, it is imperative that we challenge ourselves and think outside of the box. I have made it a personal goal of mine to make some discoveries of my own throughout my Ohio State experience in order to learn and gain new insight. I feel that I am accomplishing this task little by little as I gain new experiences through my social, volunteer, and academic settings.
Academic Enrichment: Challenging yourself academically is imperative to gaining something from the college experience. While it may be simpler to choose a major that you find is easy, it is important to do something you are passionate about so that you can gain pertinent knowledge. Taking the path less traveled may be difficult, but, ultimately, it is rewarding. By dedicating myself to my schoolwork, I know that I am putting myself in a position to achieve all of my academic goals. I plan to continue putting all efforts towards my studies and becoming knowledgeable in a field I am passionate about.
Leadership Development: Becoming a leader is a privilege that comes with a great amount of responsibility. I feel that in order to become a good leader, we must understand that being the person in charge does no necessarily mean being the only person with a voice. Leaders must be open to collaboration and hearing everyone’s perspective. I plan to develop this skill through practice while at college. As a committee chair for The Mount Leadership Society Alumni Relations Committee, I hope to gain new insight and experiences that will help me to develop and become a more successful leader.
Service Engagement: Service is a large part of what we believe in as scholars of Mount Leadership Society. I plan to dedicate a lot of my time to serving others in the community and helping those around me in whatever way I can. At this moment in time, my ultimate goal is to complete my Year of Service Project. I want to complete 75 hours of consistent service at two locations throughout my second year of college.
