Adding a Major and Minor

I came into The Ohio State University with a lot of college credit from high school. It looked like I was going to graduate fairly early so I decided to add more courses to my workload. As a result of this I decided I wanted to become double major and add a French minor. Now from the looks of it, there is a possibility I will have to add another semester of school. However, the idea of doing three things instead of one is extremely exciting. I feel so lucky that at Ohio State you can choose your own path and decide what kind of skills you want to bring to the table. This was the best and most stressful part of my first year at Ohio State. I’m sure it will keep being difficult but it will be worth it.

About Me

I am a first year International Affairs Scholar, a Morrill Scholar and a student of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. I’m from Cincinnati, and I plan on being an Environmental Lawyer. However, I am interested in more than just environmental law. I am also interested in immigration law. I am now majoring in a field that is very closely aligned with the environment, nonetheless, I am very interested in also majoring in Public Affairs. I want the education I get at Ohio State to be very well rounded and not focused on one thing. I especially want this because I want to do post-graduate work. I love to travel and because my family and I are from Mexico, I would like to especially focus on environmental racism in Latin America and travel as a part of my job. I am excited about attending The Ohio State University because of the diversity and opportunities it offers. In high school, I loved running and rowing in crew, and in college I would like to continue to purse these interests. I was a volunteer in Su Casa, a Catholic charity for Latino/Hispanic individuals and communities, and I volunteered in several environmental groups and clubs. I have found that this kind of work has been very interesting and I’m very passionate about it. I chose the International Affairs Scholars group because I wanted my scholars group to be very different from my major. I am interested in international law and I wanted to be in a diverse community.

Year in Review

My past year at Ohio State was filled with failures and successes. I learned how to study effectively, I learned how to manage my time more wisely, and I feel like I am becoming a better person. College is challenging, however, I feel like I chose the right path. I have learned to compare myself less to people and I realize more and more that grades are not the most important part of the college experience. The second semester of my first year I was extremely busy since I was working on 4 different projects. I love having a lot on my plate. I have already planned for my next year at Ohio State to be just as eventful.

Artifacts// Election 2016

The 2016 presidential election was a major event that happened on campus. I have always been very politically aware because of my parents. I remember crying and feeling genuinely happy when President Barack Obama won his first term when I was in the fifth grade. I was extremely excited to vote this election and it was really incredible seeing how many people got involved in the political process. While the results were not what I had anticipated, the whole experience was definitely eye opening and made me really appreciate living in a country in which the people have a voice and are a part of a very legitimate Republic and Democracy.
