BAIT (Bioplastic Alternatives Interdisciplinary Team) has extensive experience on bioplastic characterization, modification, and processing, and has been working on a variety of bioplastic projects, including development of bio-based and bio-degradable plastic sheets, films, and adhesives with poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate), poly (lactic acid), and natural rubber. The team was awarded an Institute of Material Research Seed Grant (2007-08), eight CAPPS (IU/CRC Center for Advance Processing and Packaging) competitive grants in 2008-2018, one OSU-OARDC New Enterprise Competition SEED Grant (2011-13) and one CAPS (Center for Applied Plant Sciences) Grant in 2018. The team has been and continues to work closely with the food industry on food packaging applications.
