About Me
Hello! My name is Emily Akkari. I’m 18 years old and a Freshmen at OSU’s Columbus branch, going into Biology as my major. I previously went to Westerville North High School (in Westerville, OH), where I was involved in activities such as Theatre, Choir, National Honors Society, and Global Scholars, as well as volunteering at COSI right in downtown Columbus.
During my time at OSU, I hope to join a multitude of clubs and participate in multiple activities (festivals, gallery hop, events at parks, etc…). Career-wise, I hope to gain knowledge and intuition through my peers, professors, and gain access to research projects, volunteer-work, and internships to further my view of the world as well as the expanse of my knowledge and hands-on experience. As a person, I’m more of a visual learner rather than someone who can understand with just words alone. I prefer to have an exact specific memory of what I’m learning to fall back on should the need arise in order to be confident enough in myself to know exactly what I’m doing. In my interests, I’m more artsy. I enjoy drawing, creating costumes, and attend conventions all throughout Ohio to showcase the costumes that I make.
In my past career as a High School student, through a program known as the Global Scholars, I created a clean-up project in order to clean up the local Reservoir near my house while also teaching people about the algae that grew there, and the threat/effect that such blooms had on different aquatic environments (and our own). I am very much interested in aquatic life as well as the adaptations and life cycles that all animals go through. As for outdoor activities, I’m especially keen on hiking and sight-seeing for the most part. I’ve also found I love to zip-line when the chance arises at a decent price, yet another way to see things all around me from different heights (literally).
It was interesting to hear about you background. I think you will find many amazing opportunities at OSU related to both your major and other interests you have! It was intriguing to hear about the environment project you worked on, there are also environmental project through ENR scholars that you could become involved in, if that interests you!
Great job, Emily! Sounds like you have had some really interesting experiences. It is so cool that you have created your own clean-up project. I think you will really enjoy ENR.
Your page looks awesome! Great design!
