G.O.A.L.S.

I see myself being involved with Global Awareness due to my interest in different cultures. The reason that I am interested in different cultures is that I have been exposed to one my whole life. Because my parents were born and raised in Pakistan, they have exposed me to its culture. Consequently, I have grown to have a great appreciation for cultural diversity and a great interest in different cultures. I enjoy learning about different cultures and will continue to learn more through my involvement in Urdu Club and my plans to take Arabic and Islamic studies classes.

I also predict that I will be involved with Original Inquiry due to my interest in science and research. Science has always been my favorite subject in school. I have always had an interest in doing scientific experiments in school and in the prospect of doing scientific experiments and research in college. Due to this interest and my goals of being a physician, I will definitely be involved in scientific research, through which I will eventually work on my own research project.

I also plan on becoming involved with the Academic Enrichment portion of G.O.A.L.S. because I have always found great success in academics. In my whole life, I have always made education my top priority. I have been a hard working and studious pupil, doing my best to increase my knowledge and do well in school. Also, I wish to be a physician in the future. I am well aware that studying medicine is a long, arduous process that requires great effort and academic success. However, since I have the inner will and motivation to succeed in this goal and because I have always excelled in academics, I believe that I will be able to accomplish my goal of becoming a physician. By majoring in neuroscience along with being premed, I have the privilege to learn much about the brain, an advantage that most other premed students do not have.

I foresee many opportunities for me to gain leadership positions in my community at OSU. One way I can become a leader is in my clubs, Muslim Student Association(MSA) and Urdu Club. Over my four years I plan on obtaining a position on the boards for both organizations and staying involved until I finish undergrad. I can also be a leader in my community through my volunteering at Riverside Hospital. Volunteering there gives me an opportunity to learn about the medical system, which will eventually aid me as I plan on going into medicine.

I will be involved in Service Engagement through two primary ways. Firstly, I will volunteer at Riverside Methodist Hospital, a great way to help those who are in need. I believe it will be a gratifying experience because it will also give me a glimpse of what it will be like to help those in need as a physician one day. In addition, I serve my community through Project Downtown. This is a weekly gathering through MSA in which students make bagged lunches for the hungry, drive downtown, and deliver the lunches to those in need.

About Me

IMG_7096Hi, my name is Nehaal Ahmed! I am an incoming freshman from Sylvania, OH where I attended St. Johns Jesuit High School. Some of my most memorable experiences during high school were going on school retreats, participating on the swim team, and playing violin for the school orchestra. Throughout the last four years my favorite activities were those that involved making new friends, working together with my peers, and forming a bond of camaraderie with others. At OSU, I want to continue participating in such activities. I therefore plan on joining MSA (Muslim Student Association) and the Urdu Club so that I can spend time with those who have similar interests as me and make a difference in my community.

Academically, I have always set high standards for myself, a habit that I also plan on taking with me to college. Through the College of Arts and Sciences, I will be majoring in Neuroscience as well as taking classes that are prerequisites for medical school as I plan to pursue a career in the medical field.
