 The Association of Graduate and Professional Administrators (AGPA) is a professional network of administrators involved with graduate and professional education at The Ohio State University. AGPA invites our colleagues from Ohio State and institutions across the state of Ohio to our 2nd AGPA Summer Conference: Breaking Barriers. This all day conference will take place in Columbus, Ohio on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the Ohio Union on The Ohio State University’s campus.  The conference will include a full day of breakout session presentations as well as a presentation by our keynote speaker, Dr. Valerie Robinson, Assistant Dean of Graduate Admission at Miami University.

Conference Theme: Breaking Barriers

This year’s conference focuses on identifying barriers to student success and addressing strategies for overcoming these obstacles. Intentionally broad, this theme will allow professionals from diverse backgrounds to bring their unique ideas and experiences to the event. What sorts of barriers (institutional, sociocultural, fiscal, etc.) have you encountered in your efforts to support students and/or develop your program? How have you or your team overcome these barriers? Did you work across units to overcome an obstacle? Did you face resistance? The conference will address these topics and more.

Pricing:

  • Early bird (until June 15):  $40
  • Regular (after June 15):     $50

Parking passes may be purchased with registration for $9.75 per day. For directions and parking information, refer to the Ohio Union website.

Ohio State employees may pay via eRequest. During registration, select “eRequest” as a payment option, and you may then enter your eRequest number at that time or return later once you have one. The eRequest should be submitted as an internal order with “Assoc. of Graduate and Professional Admi” chosen as the internal vendor.

  • breakfast, lunch, and afternoon refreshments
  • featured keynote speaker
  • professional headshots

Day of the event

On-site registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. in front of the Great Hall Meeting Room on the first floor of the Ohio Union. An overview of the conference schedule will be provided for you in your welcome folder at the registration table.

  • The full schedule can also be accessed on our Conference Agenda page.
  • Professional headshots: From 8:00 – 9:00 a.m., we will have a professional photographer available to take headshots in the Stained Glass Lounge on the second floor at the top of the Great Hall stairs. This service is complimentary.
  • Food: In addition to the provided breakfast, lunch, and afternoon refreshments, there are a variety of additional food and beverage items available for purchase at the Ohio Union. For a full list of restaurants available at the Ohio Union, visit the Ohio Union website.
  • Wireless Internet: Ohio State students, faculty, and staff should use the osuwireless network as the primary means for wireless connectivity. Guests and visitors to the university are encouraged to use WiFi@OSU, which is free to connect to after confirming the university’s acceptable use policy. Parking

  • Directions to the Ohio Union can be found on the Ohio Union website.
  • For Ohio State employees with a keycard, the Ohio Union North Garage will be closed for painting, but the Ohio Union South Garage will permit keycard access on this day. Additional keycard parking is available at the ARPS or the Gateway Garage.
  • Non-keycard parking is available at the Ohio Union South Garage. The daily rate is $13.00. Garage exit passes are available at a reduced rate of $9.75 which can be purchased during registration.
  • Limited street parking is also available around the Ohio Union.

Accessibility

  • If you have questions concerning access,  or if you wish to request a sign language interpreter or accommodations for a disability, please contact Jacquelyn Monnin (monnin.69@osu.edu). Early requests are encouraged; a week’s notice will generally allow us to provide seamless access.
  • The Ohio Union provides a variety of amenities and services including wheelchairs, a gender-neutral bathroom, and a lactation room. For more information about these facilities, visit the information desk on the first floor.
