AFS Central Ohio Chapter Winter Party Update!

Have you been hearing about these “comic-con castings” that we have been casting? Still haven’t found out what they were for? They were for the AFS local chapter annual winter party last Saturday night. I had the pleasure of getting to go to this with my fiancé (I know, how romantic right?) and ended up having such a great time. I was able to see our creations that were casted down in our foundry on display on tables at the event. Everyone was very impressed with them, so good job!

I basically went into the party knowing some faces from the chapter, but not actually knowing anyone. To make matters worse, my fiancé is extremely shy and does not like to come outside of her box. If wasn’t long, however, until we got to our and instantly connected with the fellow tablemates. Everyone acted as though they had known me for years and really appreciated me being there. This is exactly what the foundry industry is about. It is one big family.

To sum things up, I ended up winning a door prize, got to eat STEAK, and made so many new friends. I wanted to post and write this on here to encourage anyone to get involved, especially with our local chapter!

Foundry Club Helps Central Ohio AFS Comic Con Party!

The Central Ohio AFS Chapter has been beyond helpful in bringing the Foundry Club at Ohio State back to life.  To help say thanks, The Ohio State University Foundry Club has made several trinkets that will be used as party favors for the Central Ohio Chapter’s annual Winter Party.  Below are a few examples. To see more pictures click HERE!

These show just a few of the many things that can be created down in our foundry.  Come down and let’s make something together!

Upcoming Meeting! (2/9/16)

We will be having a meeting on Tuesday, February 9th from 5-6 PM. The meeting will be located in MacQuigg 160. Larry Buergel (from Fisher Cast Steel) will be coming and speaking on “Learning how to make patterns”. This is a very crucial process as castings are not able to be made without first having a pattern. With Larry teaching us how to create our own molds, you can potentially create whatever castings that you may want! This is also a topic that not many people know about, so to have Larry come and speak will be greatly beneficial and I strongly encourage all of you to attend! Food will also be provided.

In addition, could you please fill out this doodle to “RSVP” for the event so that we know how many people are able to make it? The link to the doodle is: http://doodle.com/poll/8ax44fkqw35yr43a

AFS Central Ohio Chapter Scholarship Winners

The AFS Central Ohio Chapter hosted our student chapter last evening where our very own Adam Hodges spoke on our projects, activities and plans for the future.

Following our talk, The Central Ohio Chapter announced the three winners of their annual scholarship.  The winners of these awards, each with a value of $1,500, were Andrew Klarner, Janet Meier and Justin Helton.  Winning the award was based, on thier commitment to the Foundry Industry, the Club and the community.  We are very proud of the winners and hope to have another successful group of students for next year.

Next year the scholarship may involve an actual casting and a higher dollar amount! Keep a lookout for what’s to come!
