Week 1 Team Meeting Minutes

Location: Hitchcock Hall 

Time/Date: 12:40pm 1/17/18 

Attendees: Daniel Simpkins, Elijah Harris, Andrew Brewer, Mitch Kamerer 

Goals achieved: Brainstorming of as many ideas possible 

Topics/Ideas: 

  • Elijah: We should try a single propeller design. 
  • Mitch: We should test different methods of propulsion for the vehicle. 
  • Daniel: We should test different amounts of energy going to the motor. 
  • Andrew: We can test for efficiency in aerodynamics. 

Upcoming Goals: 

  • Begin thinking of designs. (Elijah and Andrew) 
  • Get to know the Arduino interfaces. (Mitch and Daniel) 

Week 2 Team Meeting Minutes

Location: Hitchcock Hall

Time/Date: 5:00pm 1/30/18

Attendees: Daniel Simpkins, Elijah Harris, Andrew Brewer, Mitch Kamerer

Goal achieved: Explored new components of SolidWorks, assigned tasks, and began to discuss roles for group

Topics/Ideas:

  • Talked about different tools with SolidWorks and how to apply them to the AEV project.
  • Assigned the task for everyone to create a design for the AEV.
  • Began to discuss which roles our members will undertake.
    • Team Leader – Organizes meetings, gives assignments, and keeps project moving a reasonable pace.
    • Software Designer – Designs the programs that will run on the Arduino.
    • Vehicle Designer – Creates and puts together the trial and final vehicle designs.
    • Website Updater – Writes meeting minutes and keeps website up-to-date.

Upcoming Goals:

  • Bring in AEV designs to lab.
  • Think about roles that would appeal to each member.

Week 3 Team Meeting Minutes

Goals achieved: Roles were assigned 

Topics/Ideas: 

  • Roles were assigned as follows
    • Andrew Brewer: Software Developer
    • Mitchell Kamerer: Team Lead
    • Daniel Simpkins: Vehicle Designer
    • Elijah Harris: Website and Marketer

Upcoming Goals: 

  • Get AEV sketches drawn up and choose the best features
  • Score and screen the prototype sketches

Week 4 Team Meeting Minutes

Location: Denney Hall 

Time/Date: 9:00pm 2/14/18 

Attendees: Daniel Simpkins, Elijah Harris, Mitch Kamerer, Andrew Brewer 

Goals achieved: Decided what our grant proposal will be, prepared proposal presentation, assigned roles for committee meeting.

Topics/Ideas: 

  • Using grant proposal for a wind tunnel
    • Putting propellors on each end of the tunnel
    • Resting base on top  with battery, Arduino, and arm on top
    • Tunnel will be funnel- shaped and be symmetrical on each end.
    • Made powerpoint for discussion

Topics/Ideas: 

  • Shell is too heavy, need to redesign

Week 8 Team Meeting Minutes:

Location: Denney Hall 

Time/Date: 12:40 3/26/18

Attendees: Daniel Simpkins, Elijah Harris, Mitch Kamerer, Andrew Brewer

Goals achieved: Finished CDR draft, Talk about shell design

Topics/Ideas: 

  • The team decided that the servo motor was too unreliable of a braking method and agreed to optimize power braking.
  • Decided to thin out the wind tunnel shell that will be tested at a future date.
    • The shell was noticeably too thick to be functional and energy efficient.
    • The team will hold off on testing it until a thinner version of the shell is printed
  • The team came up way to attach the bracket that will carry the cargo.
  • The team also decided to keep the AEV’s speed high until it absolutely has to slow down to connect with the cargo

Upcoming Goals: 

  • Remodel the thin shell for reprinting.
  • Do test runs of the new AEV code and slightly changed design in class.
  • Run Performance Test 2 when there is full confidence it will pass first run.

Goals achieved: Brainstormed ideas for Final Performance Test

    • Must reduce power to 50%
    • Use default layout instead of shell design
