Reference: Sample AEV from Carmen
For this lab, Team K didn’t test and record all the individual sketches of group members. Instead, we came up with several basic and important features in each group member’s design, and built AEVs based on those important features. We came up with three similar designs: A, B, and C with differences.
Design A: Vertical wings on the sides
Design B: Vertical base with no horizontal wings on the sides
Design C: T-shape base
Concept Screening:
The concept screening are all supported by the observations of each team member and roughly recorded by + and – signs.
Concept Scoring:
Scoring criteria:
- Stability: 25% — recorded based on the angle AEV swings on the track (0-10 degree: 4-5, 10-20 degree: 3-2, more than 20 degree: 1-0, supported by observations of each team member)
- Minimal blockage: 15% — recorded by the times each AEV gets blocked on the track ( no blockage at all: 5-4, 1 or 2 blockages: 3-2, more than 2 blockages: 1-0, supported by observations of each team member)
- Durability: 15% — recorded by the times AEV needed to be repaired during the test (didn’t need to be repaired: 5-4, needed to be repaired once: 3-2, needed to be repaired more than once: 1-0)
- Safety: 30% — recorded based on the times AEV falling down or almost falling down (didn’t fall down: 5-4, almost falling out and seem to be not stable: 3-2, falling down:1-0, supported by observations of each team member)
Based on the concept screening and scoring, our group decided to develop the vertical wings and the T-Shape design.
The design evolutions are shown in the DESIGN tab.
