About Me

Welcome to my ePortfolio!

My name is Adriel. I am a fourth year student studying at Columbus, OH main campus of The Ohio State University. More specifically, I am studying neuroscience with a specialization in the cellular & molecular aspects of neuroscience as a field in the College of Arts and Sciences. I intend to graduate this upcoming May at the close of this Spring 2017 semester. Upon graduation, I will be actively pursuing a Masters degree in Applied Preclinical/Clinical Research (MACPR) at The Ohio State University in a gap year before beginning medical school if all goes as planned. A hardworking ethic through the years with eyes set on smaller goals have amassed into reaching my overall goal to become a physician.

In my time as an Ohio State Buckeye, I have been involved in a number of organizations that have given me a number of experiences applicable to my goals after my undergraduate studies. To begin, I was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity Beta Omega chapter on campus and refined my leadership and social abilities in positions including risk manager, office of the judicial board, member of the recruitment committee, and vice president of scholarship of the Interfraternity Council (IFC). Additionally, prior to my fourth year I volunteered at the Grant Medical Center downtown before beginning work as a unit clerical associate of the neuro-progressive unit in the Brain and Spine Hospital of the Wexner Medical Center. Lastly, I have been actively involved in ongoing research in a neurosurgery research lab investigating the cellular signal transduction pathways involved in promoting oligodendrocyte progenitor cell proliferation and differentiation through growth factors effects on the MAPK pathway in the hopes to stimulate remyelination/plasticity in spinal cord injuries. I hope to take the culmination of my experiences that sculpted me into the young professional I am today with me moving forward.

In developing my professional self through the years, I hope to continue to be hardworking, passionate, and empathetic in the pursuit of a career as a dual natured, physician-researcher. With graduation around the corner, I will be actively studying and preparing to take my MCAT exam as the final component of my medical school application. Simultaneously, I will be taking on a second job as a medical scribe working alongside physicians in garnering first hand patient experience and higher exposure to daily demands as a physician including adept understanding of medical jargon. Thus, I visualize myself fulfilling a goal to become a practicing physician involved in active research through incremental goals that will add up in the coming years. Wish me luck!
