Are you planning to travel with any expenses paid by an organization other than the university or under an agreement managed by the Office of Sponsored Programs? There are a few issues that you need to be aware of before you travel at the expense of a third party. If you are staff, such travel may not be legal under Ohio Ethics Law, depending on whether the third party is or wishes to be a vendor of the university. When the third party is not a vendor of the university, employees (faculty, staff or student employees) may need to report the value of the travel to the university using the eCOI system (where we document potential conflicts of interest). Travel paid by some select third parties, like the federal government or U.S. higher education institutions, does not have to be reported. Please contact Karla Gengler-Nowak if you have any questions about your upcoming travel, the requirements, or how to report travel in eCOI.
