My First Week at OSU

The Ohio State University was not my first choice of school. In fact, the University of Michigan was for a long time. But, I got wait-listed, and so I reluctantly accepted the offer to attend OSU. And I have a feeling that I will never again be disappointed that I chose to attend this school.

Since coming to OSU, I feel like I have found a new home and a new family. The first week was full of excitement and fun as I met some new friends and got situated in all of my classes. It was thrilling to be put in such a large place that I got to explore as an independent student, and I was loving the new relationships I was making with every person I met.

Now we are approaching the third week of classes, and things have started to become less dreamlike and much more of what I was expecting. I have a complex history with mental illness, and I have started to sense the anxiety of transitioning to college and operating on an extremely tight schedule. Even though I have had some struggles, my new friends, my professors, the counseling and consultation center, and my RA have been wonderfully helpful in helping me get the help that I need, one such instance being a midnight trip to the emergency room due to withdrawal from my medicine.

I have been thrilled with the people that I have met, my work with the flute professor, and what I have been learning in my classes. While there have been some struggles, overall moving to college has been a fantastic experience, and I cannot wait to see how my future is shaped here at The Ohio State University.
