Pre Fair Judging Schedule and Guidelines

Pre fair project judging will take place at West Union Elementary School on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. Please enter on the playground end of the building near the school cafeteria.

The schedule and project requirements for pre fair judging can be found at https://adams.osu.edu/program-areas/4-h-youth-development/non-livestock-projects. Members should plan to bring a completed project book as well as all other required items listed for their project(s). Food & Nutrition project members are required to complete the Food & Nutrition skillathon while at judging. Clothing members are required to participate in the Style Revue at 3:30 p.m. that day. Family and friends are welcome to attend the Style Revue in the school cafeteria.

Woodworking, welding, and crop projects will complete interviews during the fair. Please see the Junior Fair schedule for check-in and interview times.

Projects MUST be displayed in the Junior Fair booth building at the Adams County Fair in order to be eligible for premiums, awards, and State Fair qualification. If your club does not have a booth, you should drop your project off on Saturday, July 5 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the booth building.

If you cannot attend on June 24 but would still like to complete your project, there are two options for makeup.

  • Early makeup – Tuesday, June 17 by appointment. If you complete this makeup you ARE eligible for awards, premiums, and OSF.
  • Makeup – Tuesday, July 1 by appointment. If you complete this makeup you are eligible for premiums and will counted complete.
  • If you need to attend either makeup judging session, please call the Extension office at 937-544-2339 to schedule a time.

 

4-H Camp Counselor Applications Available

It may be cold outside, but we’re dreaming of summer days at Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp! Teens ages 14 and up as of January 1, 2025 are encouraged to apply for this terrific career development opportunity. Camp counselors receive training, help plan and facilitate camp, work with other teens from across southern Ohio, and help make sure our campers have the best summer ever.

We are looking for teens to be 4-H Camp Counselors, May 30th – June 2nd at our ALP 4-H Camp. Other counseling opportunities available for Forestry, STEM, Shooting Sports, Cloverbud, and Spring Fling overnight camps.

OSU Campus Bus Trip

Ohio State college visit, Thursday, November 21! Open to high school students interested in touring OSU. Please register at go.osu.edu/24bustrip by November 8.

Trip includes meeting with College of Food, Agriculture, & Environmental Science admissions, touring Ag Campus, lunch at Ohio Union, tour of main campus highlights, talking with current OSU students from our area, and an OSU Bus Trip t-shirt. Teens will spend time with Dr. Lyda Garcia, meat science professor, as she talks with them about opportunities at the University and beyond.

Adams County teens will meet the OSU Bus at Pike County Fairgrounds.

This opportunity is funded through a grant from the Ohio 4-H Foundation.

4-H Scholarhip Opportunity!

The Adams County 4-H Scholarship and Chad Downing Memorial Scholarship application is now available!

Applicants must be high school seniors with a minimum 2.5 gpa that have been enrolled in 4-H for at least four years, including the current and immediate past year. A completed application, current high school transcript including gpa, and a letter of reference from an Adams County 4-H volunteer that is not a relative are required to apply.

The number of 4-H scholarships vary each year depending on the success of the annual fundraiser and range from $500 – $1,000. Five Chad Downing Memorial Scholarships in the amount of $500 and two $1,000 Burley Growers scholarships will be awarded. Scholarships are paid upon proof of completion of the first semester or quarter of post-secondary education or training following high school graduation. Adams County 4-H Scholarship deadline is Friday, February 23 by 4 p.m.

4-H Camp Counselor Applications Due February 1

Applications for 4-H Camp Counselors are available now!  Must be at least 14 years old as of January 1st to apply.  Counselors will be responsible for completing 12 hours of counselor training including some onsite hours. Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp Counselor College will be held on March 4 and 5, 2023 and is mandatory for first year counselors and strongly encouraged for all counselors.

Interested teens should apply online at https://go.osu.edu/ALPCounselorApp.  Applications are due February 1st.  First time counselors must include two personal references that are not family members. Applicants should include and email address and phone number where they may be contacted.

Registration is now open for Making eXtreme Counselors, a state-wide training held at the Ohio 4-H Center that will apply towards the required hours.  Find out more at http://go.osu.edu/mxc. Must contact the Kristy to register no later January 27.

4-H Officer Training & Dance

It’s BACK! All 4-H club officers and those who are interested in being officers are invited to participate in officer training on Friday, March 25 at 6 p.m. at the Ohio Valley Career & Technical Center. We will offer sessions for president and vice president, secretary, treasurer, reporter and historian, health & safety officer, and recreation. After the breakout sessions there will be parliamentary procedure demonstration and practice and officer induction.

At 7 p.m. the dancing begins! Popcorn, pop, door prizes and line dancing. You don’t want to miss it!

4-H clubs, please bring a 2 liter of pop to share and one or two small door prizes to donate.

Make sure if these projects apply to you or your club members that they get these items turned in. Again the deadline is June 1st, by 4 p.m.

One Sunday a month October – March we will be hosting an Adams County 4-H meeting which will include pledges, program updates and a guest speaker geared toward career exploration.  We have lined up a great list of professionals to share with you about their careers, the training or education required, how they got there and other opportunities within their organization.
