Equine Ambassadors Application Due Soon

The Equine Ambassador Application Deadline is approaching quickly, on June 1st. The Equine Ambassador Program is open to male and females that are completing 7th grade to 4-H age 17 who are currently enrolled in Adams County 4-H or FFA doing a live equine project. For more rules and the application go to Horse Program | Adams (osu.edu). Completed applications and essays are due to the Extension Office by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday June 1st.

There will be up to three ambassadors selected. Ambassadors are selected based on applicants’ essays, applications, a modified obstacle course with rail work, and interview scores.

Some duties of the Equine Ambassadors are representing the Adams County Horse Program for one year from the selection date, participate in the Adams County Fair parade on opening day, help at horse shows, represent the Equine Program at horse camp, horse safety and ethics, and other programs.

Fur and Feathers Ambassador Application Deadline Approaching Quickly

The Fur and Feathers Ambassador Application Deadline is coming up quite soon, on June 1st. Fur and Feather Ambassador Program is open to male and females that are completing 7th grade to 4-H age 17 who are currently enrolled in Adams County 4-H or FFA doing poultry or rabbit projects. For more rules and the application go to Livestock Projects | Adams (osu.edu). Completed applications and essays are due to the Extension Office by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday June 1st.

There will be up to two Ambassador selected for the 2022 Adams County Fair. They will be the Fur and Feather Ambassador from July 1st, 2022, to June 30th, 2023. Ambassadors are selected based on their application, essay, and interview. Interviews will be sometime before fair and the Ambassadors will be announced the same day.

Some duties of the Fur and Feather Ambassadors are participating in the Adams County Fair parade on opening day of the fair, help with the poultry and rabbit shows, assist with the Small Animal, Baked Goods, and Crop Sale on Friday evening of the fair, and represent the Fur and Feathers Program at annual clinics and quality assurance.

So be sure to apply before June 1st to have the chance to become a Fur and Feathers Ambassador.

Skillathon is this WEEK!

Skillathons are THIS WEEK on Thursday, May 26 and Friday, May 27 from 3-7pm at the Adams County Fairground in the Administration Building. Pre-Registration is NOT required.

Skillathons are required for 4-H members and optional for FFA members. It is mandatory to complete Skillathon to show at fair for all species including equine projects. Skillathon will also earn points for Outstanding Exhibitor.

The best resources to study are your livestock resource and record books. Another way to study for Skillathon is from our friends in Wayne County, who have created online practice tests at https://wayne.osu.edu/skillathon-study-materials..

Makeups for Skillathon will be scheduled on an individual base. If you cannot attend the scheduled dates on May 26 or May 27, please contact the office at 937-544-2339. Make up skillathons are not eligible for awards but do meet the criteria to be eligible to show at the 2022 Adams County Junior Fair.

Adams County Junior Fair Royalty Applications Available

Adams County Junior Fair is calling on all member ages 16-18 to apply for the Adams County Junior Fair Queen & King Contest. Individuals interested must be an active member of a Junior Fair Organization such as: 4-H, FFA, FCCLA, Scouts, or SkillsUSA. Applications are available on the website (adams.osu.edu) or by visiting the Extension Office.

Applicants will participate in an interview on June 30. After the interview participates will be called back to participate in a public onstage event. Following the onstage interview, the top five candidates for Queen and King will be announced in no particular order. These candidates will ride in the fair’s opening day parade. At the conclusion of the parade the top 5 candidates for Queen & King will participate in an onstage interview and the King and Queen will be crowned.

You may wonder why you should apply for fair Queen or King.  If selected as the Adams County Junior Fair Queen or King, you will hold one of the highest honors a junior fair participant is able to hold. You will participate in an experience not many before you have done and for years to come you will be remembered as the 2022 Adams County Junior Fair Queen or King. During the fair you will serve as a role model to those around you, especially younger junior fair members who want to be just like you when they grow up. After fair you will continue to serve as this role model and go on to do many things during your reign. As Queen or King, you are encouraged to branch out and visit other fairs to see what junior fairs do differently and represent the Adams County Fair. You will make memories and connections for a lifetime.
