Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

The first goal is global awareness.  I intend to reach this goal through my coursework and studying abroad.  I am an anthropology major, and cultural anthropology is a subfield I am considering pursuing.  Cultural anthropology studies current human societies and how they developed.  Through coursework in this field I will attain an understanding and appreciation of cultures around the world, past and present.  I would also really like to travel abroad.  By visiting some of the cultures I learn about in my coursework I will be able to attain an even deeper understanding of them.  I believe experiencing these cultures in person is an important aspect of having a full understanding of them.

The second goal is original inquiry.  I hope to reach this goal through research projects and through the research I will do for the honor’s thesis.  I would really enjoy working with an established anthropologist and helping them with their research.  By doing so I will be able to experience what being an anthropologist is truly like.

The third goal is academic enrichment.  I will reach this goal by pushing myself to do more rigorous coursework, and then doing my best in those courses.  Some of my general education classes will be related to my major in some way and give me more background in my field.  I will also make sure to take courses that are outside of my major, so I can have a broader understanding of academia in general.  By taking non-related courses I could possibly find another field that interests me and decide to minor in it.

The fourth goal is leadership development.  This is something I hope to work on within myself during my time at Ohio State.  I know I have the capabilities to be a leader, I just haven’t pushed myself to be one very much in the past.  I need to get more involved in organizations where I have opportunities to become a leader.  Being in an organization where I am doing something that I enjoy will be a great place for me to push myself to develop leadership skills.

The last goal is service engagement.  This is also something I plan to work on while I am at Ohio State.  The organizations I join can be a good opportunity for both leadership and service engagement.  I believe giving back to the community is very important and I am looking forward to doing so.  I always enjoyed the community service programs I participated in during high school and I am excited to participate in some during my time at Ohio State.

About Me

My name is Haylee Adams and I just recently turned 18 on August 1st.  I graduated from Hamilton Township High School and Columbus State Community College this past spring.  I will be majoring in Anthropology as it is something I have found intriguing my whole life.  Why humans act the way we do, why our history is what it is, and other similar questions have always interested me.  As I have lived in Columbus my whole life, I have always been surrounded by Buckeye culture and am excited to take part in it myself!
