Inca culture was very unique because they adopted a lot of their practices from pre-existing cultures they had dominated. The tradition of keeping acllas in their state was a tradition they had adopted from an empire that existed previous to them. It is hard to pin down which culture they adopted it from. One of the most, if not the most highly valued tribute what human sacrifice. Special acllas were chosen to be sacrificed. It was often the most beautiful girl at the acllahausi, and she had to be strong and charismatic — not afraid of death. The girls chosen were more than willing to die for their empire, often times preparing for months or even a year for their death. They usually would not die in mortifying ways, they were usually intoxicated by the cultures famous chichca and left alone to pass in peace.
