The ACHIEVE study
Driving the science in diabetes among pregnant individuals.
In the first study of its kind, the multidisciplinary ACHIEVE study team at The Ohio State University is generating scientific evidence to gain deeper insights in to how digital health tools can assist Medicaid-insured pregnant individuals living with type 2 diabetes (T2D) with achieving normal blood glucose levels. A multi-component digital health tool will be developed and tested. The tool consists of a mobile health application (mHealth app), a provider dashboard, and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). An evaluation of the tools efficacy will be conducted with support from a team-based coaching components that includes support for participants with clinical needs and non-unmet social needs. The ACHIEVE intervention design process is driven by user-centered design principles and behavioral theory.
What is ACHIEVE?
Studying transformational digital health tools in pregnancy.
The objective of ACHIEVE is to develop, refine, and evaluate whether the multi-component intervention (mHealth app, provider dashboard, CGM device, and team-based care) versus the current standard of care for prenatal and diabetes care results in improved glycemic control by the time of delivery (A1c <6.5%) among study participants.
Public Health Impact
T2D is one of the most frequent chronic comorbid conditions in pregnancy. Medicaid-insured pregnant individuals experience a higher burden of T2D, associated adverse pregnancy outcomes, and unmet social needs. We aim to develop a scalable model of care that addresses modifiable social needs that directly affect glycemic control. If found to be efficacious, the intervention will be scaled across various community health settings.
