G.O.A.L.S.

To achieve 20 hours of service this past year, I participated in various volunteer opportunities through the Health Science Scholars program including volunteering at James Cancer Center, Garden of Hope and the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. I also participated in College Mentors for Kids, which is a program where elementary school kids from around Columbus come to Ohio State and do activity with a college student, who is their mentor, every week. The activities center around topics such as community and education.

Year In Review: This year went really well. The people I’ve met and the experiences I’ve had are cooler than I ever expected college to be. Although at the start of first semester, there was definitely a transition period where I didn’t know what was going on, a few weeks in, I started to feel like I could call Ohio State and Columbus home. Coming into college and being a little confused on what I wanted to do was difficult, especially when I was presented with so many opportunities to question my career path. Through volunteering at various places, talking to upperclassmen and adults and through my classes, I was able to focus in on what I wanted to do with my life, and learn about the steps to take in order to accomplish my goals. My first year of college was better than I ever imagined it would be!

Artifacts

[Artifacts are the items you consider to be representative of your academic interests and achievements. For each entry, include both an artifact and a detailed annotation.  An annotation includes both a description of the artifact and a reflection on why it is important to you, what you learned, and what it means for your next steps.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. About Me

Hi! My name is Archi Achanti and I am a first year student at The Ohio State University. I am from Rochester, NY, where I live with both my parents and my German Shepherd puppy. I am a Finance major on a pre-med track, hoping to go to medical school. I’ve always know that I wanted to spend my life helping other people, and after countless hours volunteering at places like my local fire department, farmer’s markets and hospitals, I realized that I wanted to go into the medical field so that I could help people who were really in need.

Growing up, I was involved in my school and community in some really cool ways. I was editor of the yearbook, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and helped tutor younger kids. I was also a volunteer firefighter at my local fire department, which is one of the most fun things I got to do in high school. In my spare time, I liked to go hiking with my dad and puppy, hang out with friends and play sports. I am so excited to be at OSU and look forward to meeting new people, getting involved with new organizations in the community and working towards my degree.
