Retired alumni return for OAAE celebration

Several of Ohio’s retired agricultural educators returned to celebrate, many of them Ohio State alumni!

Eggleton defends master’s project

Congratulations to Jennifer Eggleton on the successful defense of her master’s project, “Making Nutrition a Priority in School: An overview of School Curriculum.”
Dr. Brian Raison, associate professor and extension field specialist for community and organizational leadership with OSU Extension, served as Eggleton’s advisor. Her committee members included Dr. Jerry Thomas, associate professor of community and extension education, and Dr. Kellie Claflin, assistant professor of agriscience education.
Eggleton obtained her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in applied business management and education. She is currently a program assistant for SNAP-Ed with the OSU Extension Office in Greene County.

Shum defends thesis

Congratulations to Jeremiah Shum on the successful defense of his master’s thesis, “Interdisciplinary Entrepreneurial Leadership: Intellectual Property Landscapes for Social Good Using AI-Aided Satellite Technology.”
Shum was advised by Dr. Jeff King, associate professor for community leadership. Dr. Jera Niewoehner-Green, assistant professor of community leadership, served as a member of his committee.

Quijada Landaverde defends dissertation

Congratulations to Dr. Rafael Landaverde on the successful defense of his dissertation, “Mapping Climate Adaptability of Subsistence Farmers: A Multistage Mixed Methods Study in Rural Peru. Subsistence Agriculture Climatic Adaptability: A Study in Rural Peru.”
Rafael was advised by Dr. Mary Rodriguez associate professor of community leadership. Dr. Tracy Kitchel, professor of agriscience education and senior associate dean for the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences and director of faculty and staff affairs, Dr. Jera Niewoehner-Green, assistant professor of community leadership, and graduate faculty representative Dr. Ian Sheldon, professor of agribusiness and Andersons Chair of Agricultural Marketing, Trade and Policy, served on his committee.

Bower defends master’s project

Join us in congratulating Justin Bower on the successful defense of his master’s project, “Tracking Your Physical Health & Fitness: A 4-H Project Book.”
Bower was advised by Dr. Jeff King, associate professor of community leadership. Dr. Theresa Ferrari, extension specialist for youth development with Ohio 4-H, and Dr. Hannah Epley, associate state 4-H leader and extension specialist for camping with Ohio 4-H, served as his committee members.
Bower is an educator for healthy living and Ohio Military Kids with Ohio 4-H. He has also served as an extension educator with OSU Extension in Logan County. He is a 2017 graduate of Ohio State with a bachelor of science in community leadership with a specialization in community and extension education.

Pulley defends dissertation

Congratulations to Justin Pulley on the successful defense of his dissertation, ” ‘Is that an Oculus?’ An Investigation of Ohio Agricultural Education Teachers and Students User Experience in a Virtual Reality Tractor Safety Experience.”
Pulley was co-advised by Dr. Dee Jepsen, professor and leader of the Ohio agricultural safety and health program, and Dr. Tracy Kitchel, professor of agriscience education and senior associate dean for the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. His committee members include Dr. Amanda Bowling, assistant professor of agriscience education, and Dr. Thomas Cherpes, graduate faculty representative.
Pulley will graduate in August with his doctorate. He holds a bachelor’s degree in applied science and a master’s degree in agriculture from Sam Houston State University.

Niewoehner-Green receives national educator award

During the 2022 NACTA Annual Conference, Dr. Jera Niewoehner-Green was awarded with the NACTA Educator Award.

As an assistant professor of community leadership, she has instructed several courses in our department, including Critical Perspectives in Leadership Development, Foundations of Personal and Professional Leadership, Youth Organizations and Program Management and the leadership major capstone course. Niewoehner-Green joined the ACEL faculty in 2016.
