As college students, we know all too well the struggle of balancing the costs of life including tuition, rent, and groceries; not to mention other necessities like buying full season tickets for Ohio State football games. Trying to alleviate some of the financial stress students face, Ohio State offers some relief to students by offering ways to save.

If you take the time to look at what all is included in tuition costs, you will notice that there is a charge of $37.50 for a “Student Activity Fee.” If you’re at all like me, you might be wondering what on earth this is and why you are required to pay it. Well the good news? The benefits you receive from paying this fee greatly exceed the mere $40 you spent. Because of this student activity fee, Ohio State is able to offer students a wide variety of opportunities at either a discounted rate, or for free.

Throughout the year there are various entertainment opportunities on campus that students can go to free of charge, which include concerts, lectures, comedy shows, and movies. In recent years, Ohio State has offered students the following events: Big Sean concert, Bill Nye the Science Guy, 10 Lessons for Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse with Max Brooks, The Hunger Games movie night on the Oval, and even an event called “Cupcakes and Canvases with Cody” where you spend the evening painting and eating cupcakes.

If students are looking for something fun and affordable to do off campus, “d-tix” is a great option to check out. D-tix refers to discount tickets (as well as gift cards) that are available to students at the Ohio Union. Some of the attractions that offer discounts through d-tix are: Mad River Mountain, Cedar Point, Jeni’s Ice Cream, the Columbus Zoo, and much more.

Whether you are a freshman or a senior, we are all college students looking to save a buck. Take advantage of the ways that Ohio State can help you save!
