Experience OSU for a Day Hosts Needed!
Do you enjoy sharing your passion for Ohio State with others? Would you be willing to show high school students what it is like to be a Buckeye? The “Experience OSU for a Day” (EOFD) Program allows prospective students to get a feel for what college is really like. These students visit CFAES frequently, and we are in need of volunteers to show these students around campus when they come to visit.

EOFD Hosts volunteer to have prospective high school students shadow them from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. for 1-2 weekdays each semester. Hosting is very flexible and can be adjusted to fit your schedule. Hosts are encouraged to take their shadow(s) to see various classrooms, the Oval, the Union, a dorm room, and to eat lunch at Parker Dairy Store (lunch is free for the host and shadow). To sign up, simply fill out the form at http://go.osu.edu/eofd-hosts. If you have questions, feel free to contact Gary Klopfenstein at klopfenstein.40s@osu.edu

Sign up to Mentor-A-Buckeye
Mentor-A-Buckeye is a program that pairs ninth graders from Columbus City Schools with a community leader and an Ohio State University undergraduate student mentor. Each mentor-protégé family will remain together throughout the protégé’s high school career.Mentors will have constant contact with their protégé throughout their high school career, and hopefully far beyond. Mentors will be there to guide their protégé through high school and help them apply for college. They will act as a driving force behind their protégé. Mentors will be asked to have a minimum of two contacts with their protégé, per month (one phone call and one direct). We ask that mentors be creative in the development of their relationship with their protégé, and understanding of the protégé’s background. Most, Ohio State student mentors and high school protégés will graduate at the same time.

Using the multiple mentor strategy allows both, the Ohio State and high school, students to benefit from the program and gain a mentor. While the Ohio State student will serve as a mentor to the high school student, the community leader will serve as a mentor to both students.

The program is currently accepting applications from community leaders in the Greater Columbus area and undergraduate students at The Ohio State University – Columbus campus (2019 graduates or later). Applications are due January 15, 2016.

Interested Community Leaders can apply here! (September 1 – January 15)
Interested Ohio State (2019 graduates or later) students can apply here! (October 1 – January 15)

Past projects have included working with youth, literacy education, serving meals, office work, and a variety of other worthwhile service experiences. The day will conclude with group reflection at Hale Hall, where pizza will be provided.Registration is at 7:45am in the Ohio Union (Volunteers are placed on a first come first serve basis). Save the date for Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Ohio Union! The Student Involvement Fair is the best place to find a student organization that meets your needs and interests. Held during the first week of Spring semester, members of more than 250 OSU student organizations and campus departments will be on the Oval to share with you more information about their organization. This is your first and best opportunity to chat with them and start determining what you’re going to get involved with outside of your classes.
