CFAES Outstanding Seniors of 2014 – 2015; Where are they now?

Untitled-1Each year the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences recognizes 20 outstanding seniors at the annual recognition program.In 2014, one student from the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership was recognized as an outstanding senior. In 2015, five students from our department received the honor at the annual CFAES Recognition Program.

Join us in taking a look back at the outstanding seniors from our department over the past few years.

2014
Amy Jo (Frost) Baughman
Majoring in agriscience education, Amy Jo earned her bachelor’s degree in 2014. She is currently a graduate student in Agricultural and Extension Education with an assistantship, working part time for the CFAES Office of Prospective Student Services with Jill Tyson, and part time in the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership with Dr. Jeff King. She was recently married in September of 2015 and is currently working on a master’s thesis about vocational education needs in Choluteca, Honduras.

 

2015
Kelly Fager
Choosing to major in agricultural communication, Kelly recently graduated with her bachelor’s degree in May of 2015. She is residing in Defiance, Ohio, employed with Consolidated Grain and Barge as a Grain Merchandiser. Her responsibilities include: establishing and maintain strong customer relationships through face-to-face interactions and phone calls; purchasing grain and executing contracts and agreements that customers desire; coordinating the non-genetically modified organisms (NGMO) programs for CGB Defiance; managing the CGB Defiance Facebook page; organizing monthly grain marketing club meetings; and creating communication pieces for the elevator as necessary. She is also a certified agricultural commodity tester for corn, soybeans, and wheat. With this position, Fager is enjoying her time getting to know farmers by interacting at work, various Farm Bureau events, or county fairs. She has also been able to travel to numerous places such as St. Louis, Missouri; Jeffersonville, Indiana; and Cincinnati, Ohio. She has had the opportunity, as well, to meet Kenin Adams, President and CEO of CGB Enterprises, Inc. during the Ohio State CFAES Fall Scholarship Banquet, earlier this year.

Megan Moorman
Majoring in agriscience education, Megan is now the proud agricultural educator and FFA advisor at Westfall High School in Williamsport, Ohio. She is the youngest teacher at her school, and says she has been mistaken for a student too many times to count!

Stacie Seger
Stacie  recently graduated with her bachelor’s degree in 2015, majoring in agricultural communication. She is now employed as the communication manager with Ohio Corn and Wheat in Columbus, Ohio. Seger says, “During college, I loved traveling to conferences and studying abroad. It was a great way to meet people, learn about different sectors of the agriculture industry and see beautiful landscapes. Today I get to travel domestically and internationally with our corn and wheat farmers as we build market demand. I love that I have a job that allows me to continuously learn about different sectors of agriculture first hand.”

Michelle King
Michelle majored in community leadership with a specialization in community and extension education. She is now located in St. Marys, Ohio and employed as the communication assistant with Cooper Farms. King is excited to share that she will be getting married next August!

If you are a current senior in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, the application form for the 2016 Outstanding Senior Award is now available at http://go.osu.edu/cfaes-outstanding-senior.  To qualify for consideration, applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA at the time of application and be graduating during the 2016 calendar year. Selections are made based on the applicant’s record of scholarship, leadership, professional and personal growth and involvement in the community, both within OSU and beyond. The deadline for applications is December 16. All applications will be reviewed in January. A group of students will be selected, from all who apply, to interview with the selection committee in February. The group of Outstanding Seniors will be recognized at the CFAES Recognition Program on April 7, 2016. Contact Dr. Marilyn Trefz (.2) should you have questions.
