Outstanding New Advisor Award Winner: Emilia Louy

Mary Bailey Advising Award Winners: Alison Baker & Heather Kerr

Melinda McDonald Advising Administrator Award Winner: Cory Matyas

Now, onto April!

Check out some of the wonderful things our advising colleagues have done this past month! Thank you to each of you for all of your hard work and dedication to the students in your areas and OSU!

  • EXP KCC Squad Advisors: Kathryn Dove, Ericka Gunn, Margaret Nevrekar, Kennetia Ratleff-Horton, and Dominique Todd
    • This group of outstanding advisors works with some of the most challenging student situations, dealing with transfer and campus change students in Exploration. They often have to have the hard conversations with students about reimagining their academic path and helping them find new ways to achieve their goals. Somehow, they still approach each student with a smile and compassion. I feel honored to work with this amazing team of advisors.”
  • Michelle Daymon & Brandon Hines
    • Major kudos to Michelle and Brandon, co-chairs of the 2022-23 Awards & Recognition Committee, for successfully organizing the first in-person ACADAOS end-of-year banquet since 2019! The committee this year was small (but mighty!), and the four-year gap since the last in-person event means that there was a lot of extra work to re-establish old norms and processes and make new ones as well. They did an excellent job navigating unexpected challenges, both beforehand and on the day of, to provide an enjoyable experience for all!”
  • Margaux Karp & Kim Wickham
    • Margaux and Kim joined the Central Support for Academic Advising team during Autumn semester. They have already had experience supporting Business, HRS, EHE, and other areas. In addition, they reached out to students at the beginning of Spring who were repeating a course for the 3rd time to help them change their class schedules, and they also sent positive recognition messages for students who had significantly improved their Autumn GPA (compared to their cumulative GPA) which was very well received by students. More than that, they have contributed at least 40 hours each to planning, offering, and supporting both the Holistic Advising and Wellness Day on March 28th and the Advising To Careers conference on April 21st. They are creative, student centered, team oriented advisors who deserve to be recognized for their hard work.”
  • Alisa Paulsen
    • Alisa is a great Advising Administrator. She takes the time to acknowledge the time, work, and efforts put forward by our advising team to support our large major. Her thoughtfulness during Advisor appreciation week and throughout the year is great appreciated.”

The winners of this month’s ACADAOS raffle are… Margaux Karp & Kim Wickham! Congratulations!

March 2023 Advisor of the Month

Check out some of the wonderful things our advising colleagues have done this past month! Thank you to each of you for all of your hard work and dedication to the students in your areas and OSU!

  • Rodica Barbu
    • In addition to continuing to provide helpful historical context for math interpretations regularly, a big thank you goes to Math Advisor Rodica Barbu who has gone above and beyond in continuing to review and process the complex dual degree, double major, and triple minor situations for Math, IMME and Actuarial Science students. Much appreciated!”
  • Margo Coates
    • For being such an amazing help this year with ACADAOS. She’s really stepped in to solve problems and take over responsibilities when other advisors went on leave. Thank you Margo – I’d be very lost and stressed without you!”
  • Ryan Mouncey
    • Ryan is always a great team player and this week was another prime example of that. He quickly stepped in to help when his colleagues were out sick, which required him to wear many different hats in the span of a short period of time. In addition to his already full day of student appointments, he covered teaching a class for an advisor out sick and even coached a faculty member through a complicated student situation when they “dropped in” suddenly for help. He always keeps his cool and is great in a crisis. We are lucky to have him on the team!”
  • Shannon Romey
    • Shannon has stepped up to fulfill various roles outside of her normal advising duties. She is a tremendous resource for our entire unit as well as the faculty in our academic departments. She brings unmatched positivity and encouragement to our team and is a natural leader in our office.”

The winner of this month’s ACADAOS raffle is… Margo Coates! Congratulations!

  • Meg Downing
    • Meg is always there to answer my questions and helps keep me sane. She is an absolute rock star of an advisor and is always so supportive and wonderful.”
  • Ahmed Hassan
    • Ahmed has been a great addition to our team in EHE and goes above and beyond to support our students. He connects well with students and makes them feel valued and cared for at all times. He constantly looks for ways to enhance his already strong advising skill set and contributes greatly to the unit.”
  • Jeanne Mauriocourt
    • As we have undergone a great deal of transition in our advising office, Jeanne has been a steady hand to help guide us all through the process. Throughout all the ups and downs as we navigate training new advisors and filling empty leadership roles, Jeanne has taken time and care to ensure that everyone on the advising team feels heard and recognized. All this while she uses the same calm and ease to advise her students.”
  • Gionna Russo
    • Gionna has done a fabulous job learning about the ISE curriculum and assisting ISE students this semester. She really takes the time to learn about the student and provide accurate and detail-oriented options for their schedules. Her questions are thoughtful and student-centered.”
  • Jen Scott
    • Jen helped a student seeking review of COMM transfer credit. Both the student and advisor had no luck getting a copy of an old syllabus for review. Jen used her magic and found one to review and get the general credit changed for the student. Her commitment to going above and beyond for students is greatly appreciated by the student and advisor. Thanks Jen!”
  • Ashley Sweaney
    • Ashley was extremely helpful in tracking down missing grades from an AU22 class. One of the many responsiblities that is advising, but not. Thanks Ashley, greatly appreciated by the students and staff!”
  • Melissa Toretch
    • Melissa has been doing amazing work in the CSE advising office helping with the many MANY advising questions from both students and colleagues. She is an absolute rockstar and is going above and beyond to help as much as she can.”

The winners of this month’s ACADAOS raffle are… Ahmed Hassan and Jen Scott! Congratulations!

  • Susan Lee
    • She is a great advisor to students and leaves a positive impact.”
  • Matt Waitkus
    • Matt is one of the best “conflict management” advisors in the office, and he is tireless (at least it seems so lately!). For the consistently calming, straightforward advice he gives, to both our student AND parent populations, he definitely deserves a shout out. Thanks for handling so many of tough ones, Matt!”

  • Hannah Bushman
    • Hannah has been such a great resource for the new advisors on the Fisher College of Business advising team. She is always readily available and so helpful with any questions or concerns that come up. Thank you Hannah!”
  • Emily Carpenter
    • Emily is an excellent advocate for all of her students! She is proactive with her outreach to students in order to prevent potential issues whenever possible, and, of course, always helpful whenever students come to her with any problems they may be facing. She is an incredibly patient and supportive supervisor and coworker, as well. She deserves to be recognized for her hard work!”
  • Leslie Dowler
    • Went above and beyond to help multiple students who encountered issues. Being a voice for students.”
  • Sam Felhaber
    • Doing the role of 3 advisors in one with grace and professionalism”
  • Damesha Wells
    • Damesha is one year into her time at OSU as an advisor in EHE and she has already become such a great asset to our team and her students truly rely on her guidance and support. Our unit has had a lot of changes over the past year and Damesha has stepped up to help out wherever she can. She has taken on new responsibilities and has become the advisor for our non-traditional scholarship and AA program. It has been so great to watch her grow over this year and build important relationships with her students. She is an amazing asset to OSU!”
