December 2019/January 2020 Advisors of the Month

Check out some of the wonderful things our advising colleagues have done this past month! Thank you to each of you for all of your hard work and dedication to the students in your areas and OSU!

Emily Carpenter Following the flooding in the Hagerty Hall Advising Office, I don’t know what we would have done without Emily! Emily worked quickly to find us all temporary office locations, and made sure we had the technology and other resources we needed. She was on top of everything. Even now that we’re all in separate offices, she always makes a point to check in on us and ask if we need anything. She deserves a Supervisor of the Year award!
Julianne Hensel Julianne is managing many aspects of various honors applications currently happening in Fisher College of Business. Her Qualtrics and Excel skills are very helpful in making the application process for students and the review process for staff and faculty run smoothly!
Alissa Kasmer Alissa has got to be hands down the best advising resource I have encountered in my time at OSU. If she doesn’t know an answer, she knows who to ask to find an answer. She’s helped me navigate many complicated situations and is an excellent sounding board. She works hard for her students and her department and I know that even though they don’t say it often, they are incredibly thankful for her and I am too.
Shalonda Makupson-Tilford Shalonda cares deeply for her students and makes sure each student is seen, heard, and supported. We are lucky to have you as a part of our team.
Alexis McDonagh Alexis started in our office in October and began seeing student on her own in January. She’s doing an amazing job learning all of Ohio State’s policies, resources, and petitions, as well as the requirements for psychology and various other pre-health programs. She also did over 30 major declaration appointments in January! She’s a great addition to the team.
Ryan Mouncey Ryan is a great addition to our advising team! He started during the chaos of the 2nd week of fall semester so he had to hit the ground running, and he did so with a great attitude. Not only is he doing his job well but he is stepping up and helping out with other tasks as needed. One recent example is from this winter break when he helped with grade/record reviews for some colleagues out on leave. This can be a very onerous and mind-numbing task, particularly after having already spent days reviewing hundreds of your own advisee’s records. Despite knowing this, Ryan didn’t hesitate to volunteer and help his colleague out. He is a great team player and we are thrilled to have him.
Rick Stewart Rick is an advisor who is not only attentive to the needs of his students but also the needs of the advising area. His organizational skills and attention to details have contributed to successful initiatives he has led. His sincere respect and inclusiveness of all perspectives has been refreshing. Since we have been short staffed in the advising area at the Mansfield campus, Rick’s willingness to provide assistance above and beyond has been so helpful. He is usually seen in his office after 5 pm, typically one of the last staff members to leave. Thanks, Rick, for your awesome teamwork and support. You will be greatly missed when you retire at the end of spring semester.
Louise Vasher Louise has been a wonderful addition to Fisher not only for students but also for the whole office. She always comes to work with a smile and a positive attitude. She cares deeply for her students and knows all about their backgrounds. When she meets with students, they know she is truly listening their concerns and frustrations. We are lucky to have her!
Athena Yiamouyiannis Athena has great managerial skills that she used to streamline math advising, allowing each team member to use their best abilities.
She was also instrumental in making the office change happen during the Autumn ’19 term, in spite of all the challenges that came during the busiest term of the year.
Athena coordinated the hiring of three new math advisors, and helped built an awesome team: “The Five Math-keteers” as I dare titled us :- )

The winners of this month’s ACADAOS raffle are… Alissa Kasmer and Rick Stewart! Congratulations!
