Scanned Art Project
I found this leaf on a long walk through the trails at OSU Mansfield. It was a hot sunny day in the mid 80’s with a light breeze. This leaf caught my eye as it was rustling along the sidewalk in front of me. When I picked it up it had a certain beauty because it wasn’t a perfect fallen green leaf. The leaf shows the damage that has come to it from weather and insects, it was dry and starting to decay back to the Earth. That is what made this scan so attractive to me, you can see those little imperfections in the leaf and the state of decay is permanently captured even as the leaf itself will wither away. In the scan the light and dark play well on the leaf showing immense detail in the front and the edges fading into the dark shadows which is almost representative of how the leaf itself once had this vibrant color and life but now before your eyes is breaking apart and disappearing.
