Chlamydia Trachomatis is a gram-negative, intracellular bacterium that can only reproduce in a host cell. Unlike most bacterium, Chlamydia has a two-part growth cycle. The bacteria will first have to travel and attach itself to the inside of a host cell. Once attached, it is able to enter by endocytosis, where the bacterium engulfs the host cell in an energy-using process. Inside the cell, the microorganism begins reproducing within the cell until the cell ruptures. When this occurs, up to 1,000 new microorganisms have developed and spread throughout the body.
