Badge 9 – Analyzing

Analyzing is breaking material into parts, determining how the parts relate to one another or the overall purpose of the content.  Two aspects of analyzing are: validating and tagging.

Validating is the process of analyzing data sources and making judgements based on where the information came from.  One aspect of my presentation on content curation discussed analyzing sites and authors of content you find before curating.  Using Pinterest, students were to find relevant media relating to interests in educational media.  Students had to go through the process of validating the material, making sure the author and site were reliable, that the information was relevant, and determine bias before curating the information on their Pinterest board.

Tagging is the organization of online data so that it can be readily searched and discovered.  Students were to add tags, via using appropriate themed Pinterest boards, to their curated items so that other users could easily find their content and read their evaluation of that content.
