Badge 3 – Technology Management

MicroTeaching #1: MOOCs

Susan and I created a PowerPoint to help manage the flow of time and technology.  We originally embedded a video into the PowerPoint, but when we imported it into Adobe Connect, we realized that it would not automatically play.  We added the URL link to the page and had participants click the link to view the video instead.

We also utilized the Adobe Connect feature of breakout rooms.  We originally had two notes created for Pros and Cons of MOOCs, but when we actually started the rooms we noticed the layout was different and the notes were gone.  We added a note to room 1 and by the time we got to room 2, another participant had added the note, which was appreciated!

Towards the end we wanted to do a further discussion of our MOOC examples.  However, due to time constraints we opted to send the PowerPoint out to the class so that participants could view the examples and explore MOOCs of personal interest on their own time.

Content Curation Facilitation

I created a PowerPoint to help manage the flow of time and technology.  Within the presentation is a link to a YouTube video that we viewed about Where Good Ideas Come From.

I also created a Google doc with a table that allowed participants to type in their research on three different types of content curation tools.  This table then allowed us to compare each of the three sites easily and quickly, as well as giving all participants access to the information with the link to the doc.  I had an issue with my sharing feature, so after Carla told me I had to go in and change it so that everyone could edit the document.

Finally, I created a Pinterest page to provide an activity where participants could curate content of interest to them.  Our discussions ran a little long, so I emailed out the link with the log-in information so that each person can choose a theme within the big idea of Media Technology in Education on their own.  They can find content to curate and pin to their newly created board.  Participants have the link, and username and password for the Pinterest activity so that they can continue using it beyond the lesson activity time.

MicroTeaching #2: Apps in Education

For this lesson, Liz and I plan on having a PowerPoint to provide direction and time management to the activities.  We also plan on utilizing two iPads so that participants can work in groups to create and try out different features of several apps.  We will also be creating a video using iMovie to edit our clips and photos.
