Micro Teaching #1: MOOCs
Susan and I incorporated a few different approaches to assessment into our facilitation on MOOCs. First, as a formative assessment, we posed two questions before we began our discussion as shown by the image below.
Second, we later had a discussion of pros and cons of MOOCs based on what had been presented to that point in the lesson. We divided students into two groups so that they could share and learn further from each other. This enabled us to gauge what students had already taken in and what we still needed to clarify or discuss further.
Finally, at the end of the presentation we concluded by asking students if they had any further questions about MOOCs. Provided more time, we could have had students find a MOOC on the internet to share with everyone, which would solidify their knowledge of MOOCs.
Content Curation Facilitation
My goal for this facilitation was to incorporate a variety of techniques to assess and engage participants in the content curation process. First, as a formative assessment, I inquired about what the participants already knew about content curation as seen by the graphic below. These questions allowed me to see what everyone knew and what level of experience they had with content curation.
Next, I wanted to allow for exploration of a variety of tools that are available to curate. I divided everyone into 3 groups so that they could work together to explore 3 different content curation tools. Then, we came together and evaluated the three sites together. We were able to compare different aspects of each site and see which sites may be good for one type of content or another.
Finally, as a summative assessment, we were going to use Pinterest as a content curation tool. Since we ran out of time, I described the activity and will provide the information for each participant to become a curator and find content and add to a themed Pinterest board for the Media Technology in Education site.
MicroTeaching #2: Apps in Education
For this lesson, Liz and I plan on providing iPads to two groups for them to explore and create different elements on a variety of apps.
