Badge 16 – Content Curation

Meets learning goal
The learning goals for my lesson are:

  • Describe the content curation process.
  • Explore various content curation web tools.
  • Create a content curated board using Pinterest

The content that I curated for this lesson are all about different aspects of how to curate and come from a variety of sources.  Some of the curated items are links to a variety of web tools that can be used for content curation.  The curated items appear on a Pinterest site which can be viewed here: http://www.pinterest.com/MTE5291/

Resources evaluated for accuracy, authority, timeliness, coverage, and objectivity
Each resource was checked for validity.   One site is a government agency, one is a well known education magazine, and one is a well known author.  Each site is copyright, and that was checked to make sure it was no more than a few years old, while my focus was to find as current information as possible.  I also pulled resources from various places and platforms so that a consensus could be made from many bias.  I realize that every author has some sort of bias on any subject and complete objectivity is impossible.

How are the sources connected?
The sources are connected in that they all deal with an aspect of the content curation process.  Whether it be how to do it, where to do it, or the thought process behind why it is important in the world we live in, each source provides a valuable addition useful to any curator.

Arranged, annotated, and published available to the public to tell a specific story
The curation tool I used is Pinterest.  The screen shots below provide examples of what the page looks like (which is open to anyone who wants to view it on Pinterest) and how I have added my own comments to each resource so viewers can learn more about it and what I think about it.  The items are arranged on board.  One board specific to curation is shown below as well.

How does the curated resources serve a broader audience
I hope that the resources are helpful to anyone wanting to get started in content curation, or hone their content curation skills.  I also hope it reaches out to educators as well as marketers when they are thinking about themselves and their offerings and how to capture a larger audience.  I also think that the video resource engages the creativity connection and shows greater importance for curating items.

Resources arranged thematically and contextually
On the Media Technology in Education Pinterest site I have a board relating to content curation and another board relating to MOOCs.  The resources are separate and easily navigated to find the sources of interest to the viewer.

Curate from a wide variety of sources
The items I curated come from a variety of locations.  Some are educational magazines, videos, specific websites used as tools, and government agencies.  It is important to have variety so that you, along with your audience, can have a full view of the opinions that are out there regarding the curated topic. The gallery above shows some of the variety of the sources that I curated from.  The link is shown in gray below the photo of the source.
