Planning
Susan and I worked together to create a synchronous online course on MOOCs. Our objectives for the lesson are:

  • Students will be able to explain what is a MOOC.
  • Students will be able to locate MOOCs on the internet related to specific themes
  • Students will be able to compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantage of MOOCs

We incorporated several different assessment strategies into our presentation which are discussed in further detail here: Formative and Summative Assessments.

Integration of Technology
We used PowerPoint in conjunction with Adobe Connect features to create a more dynamic and engaging learning experience for participants.  Click here to download the PowerPoint and used under the above Creative Commons License.

We also incorporated a Vimeo video about MOOCs to provide an introduction that would relate to students who learned better with a visual, and provided a further explanation from an outside source beside Susan and I.

Further information about the technology management in this lesson can be viewed here: Technology Management.

Lesson Delivery
Susan and I both made sure that we could hear everyone and everyone could hear us on Adobe Connect.  We also went in and checked on students in the breakout rooms to make sure that they had everything they needed to continue their discussion.  Because of the short time frame, we made sure our PowerPoint was clear and specific to the points we wanted to make about MOOCs.

Individualization
Susan and I wanted to make sure we could relate MOOCs to the participants of our lesson, so we developed some specific activities and links that are further explained here: Differentiation.
