Badge 10 Chapter Assessment/Public Relations

In today’s world agriscience programs are coming under scrutiny from some as unnecessary and should be cut from public high schools. In situations where programs are possibly going to be cut it’s important to show what the program does for the students and what it contributes to the community. Two ways that this can be done are through media articles, either in the newspaper or on the chapter website, and through strong support and involvement with local business’.

Articles:

Articles put on any media source is way to show the community what all the chapter is doing within the community and how the chapter is representing the town at competitions and events such as state and national convention. Through articles a chapter can also build the alumni base and business supporters in the community. In most FFA chapters a person didn’t actually have to be in FFA to be in the alumni organization. If a person see’s the good things that the students are doing then they might start to get involved in FFA events and eventually become productive alumni members.

Local Business’:

If a school district is wanting to cut the program then local business owners could be the chapters biggest supporters. If the ag teacher had records through AET on how much their students purchased from local stores and business’ on their SAE projects then the school board could see the economic benefits of having the FFA program up and running.
