Our Office Update

Many of our staff are still teleworking, per direction of The Ohio State University, some employees will start to work from 155 E. Main St. Suite 320 beginning June 16, 2020 as we begin the process of physically reopening the office.

The office will be open Tuesday 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm for 4-H Related Questions and Thursdays 8:30 am – 10:30 am for general agricultural questions. In addition to those hours the office will be open Monday, June 29th 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm and Tuesday, June 30th 9:00 am – 4 pm by APPOINTMENT ONLY for general questions.

There are new guidelines for entry into the office, and they are posted on the window as you enter the office, such as visitors must wear a mask, hand sanitize upon entering, be symptom and exposure free, and maintain social distancing.

Older Youth in Training interest forms due December 6th

A 4-H member, at the age of 13 on January 1, 2020, is eligible to participate in the Older Youth In -Training (OYIT) program to learn more about the following opportunities junior fair board, camp counselor, junior leader, CARTEEN, and 4-H Committee.  Members of the OYIT program take on a leadership role in Cloverbud Camp and meet with older youth and adult leaders of the above-mentioned programs to ask questions and get information on the programs.

If a 4-H member would like to be considered for the counselor-in-training (CIT) program as a 14-year-old, successful completion of this program is REQUIRED when they are 13.

Interest forms were mailed to eligible 4-H members and they are due December 6th.

 

Buckeye Shepherd’s Symposium

The Buckeye Shepherd’s Symposium takes place at the Shisler Conference Center in Wooster, including the youth program, on Dec. 13 and 14. A celebration of the Ohio Sheep Improvement Association’s 70th Anniversary also will take place. A youth discount is being offered (youth ages 12 and under are free, youth ages 13 – 22 are $25.00), these prices reflect the 2 day registration. This is a great opportunity for any sheep enthusiast or shepherds in your county.

Friday speakers at the event will include Sandi Brock, Commercial sheep producer and face of “Sheepishly Me- Adventures in Sheep Farming” on social media and YouTube, of Shepherd Creek Farms in Ontario, Canada; Cameron Lauwers — a first generation sheep producer and fourth generation farmer from Capac, Michigan who runs 600 ewes in a mostly housed accelerated lambing system; and Dr. Luciana da Costa, DVM of the OSU Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicines, who will be sharing her expertise on mammary health and mastitis. On Saturday additional speakers including John Foltz, Ohio State Animal Sciences chair and Lee Fitzsimmons, from Wayne Savings Community Bank.
