EquiSTEP for 4-H Horse members

REMINDER:

New is 2023, EquiSTEP an equine safety, training, and education program becomes an annual requirement for all Ohio 4-H youth enrolled in a horse project. You have two options to complete the requirement for 2023.

  • Complete the online self-paced course by enrolling at http://cfaesosu.catalog.instructure.com/courses/equistep-2023 and completing the quiz at the end of the course.
  • Attend the face-to-face training on May 1st from 5:30-7 PM at the Extension Office meeting room 155 Main St. McConnelsville Room 325 Riecker Building and completing the online Quiz after the training online or complete it online at home.

 

NOTE: You need to have an individual email address for each youth completing the course. This is a requirement to take your project and participate PAS shows, state fair and the county fair as a 4-H Equine Exhibitor.

Junior Fair Equine Exhibitor Reminders

ITEMS to Remember

  • Your completed paperwork is due to your 4-H Club Advisory by May 20th so it can be turned into the office by the June 1st deadline.
  • If you plan on trying out for the State Fair a Coggins test must be turned in with your paperwork. It is required that you have one by June 1st to exhibit at the State Fair.
  • All first year equine exhibitors need to watch two safety videos and complete 4-H 191 R, Horses, Safety, and You.

 

Updates for Equine Projects

4-H members taking an equine project were mailed their annual letter with the 2022 4-H Saddle Horse & Pony Program Rules and Horse ID forms. 4-H members need to get their Horse ID forms and photos to their 4-H Advisor by May 20th so 4-H Advisors can turn them into the OSU Morgan County Extension Office by June 1st.

We are excited to welcome back to the county a PAS show for the first time in over 15 years. A special thank you to the Morgan County Agricultural Society (Senior Fair Board) for helping to make this happen.

VIRTUAL State 4-H Horse Advisor/Volunteer Training Session

This year’s State 4-H Horse Advisor/Volunteer Training will be held virtually via OSU Scarlet. Modules of content to explore will be open from 9:00 am Thursday, January 28th through 9:00 pm Sunday, January 31st. There will also be an optional Q&A Zoom meeting Saturday, January 30th from 10-12 pm. We are excited to say that there are changes to the Uniform Rules for 4-H Horse Shows.  New scoring systems for pattern classes and the expansion of our ranch horse division to now include a separate showmanship and horsemanship class.

Registration is required, although there is no cost to participate. Information can be found online at https://ohio4h.org/events/virtual-state-4-h-horse-advisorvolunteer-training-session including an event schedule.
