Project judging is coming up quickly! In order to receive credit for a 4-H project, exhibit at the county fair, receive a fair pass and premium (this year sponsored by the 4-H Committee); you must have non-livestock projects (including small animals & dogs) judged prior to the fair. This year, we have two options available for project completion.
Option 1: In-person Project Judging
On Tuesday, July 21st, we will have in-person project judging held at the Morgan County Fairgrounds (Multipurpose and New Barn). This day will include clothing judging. There will not be a style review this year, but youth are expected to wear their garments to judging for a quick total-look walk.
The safety measures in place are: appointment times for youth, judges and youth will wear face coverings (at this time), a 6 foot physical distance between youth and judges, and sanitation in-between appointment times. Judging will consist of an interview by a judge who will look at your project, ask you questions about things you learned, and grade your project. They can also select a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Honorable Mention placing in the county for each project. All project books are to be brought to judging. No project book = no county placing. Award distribution is still to be determined at this time.
Option 2: Completed Project Book & Display Drop Off
In case youth and families do not feel comfortable or are at high risk, 4-H members have until Friday, July 31st to drop off a completed project book and display to the Extension office for a project completion and an A grade. If only one item is turned in, the grade will result in an automatic C. Similar to make-up judging, youth that do not participate in project judging do not qualify for county placings for each project. Clothing project members will need to turn in a total-look printed photo as their project display (no garments are to be turned in).
Other Details:
Youth cannot carry the same project in 4-H and any school program where you receive a grade toward schoolwork. Even if you make or construct a new item, it still cannot be counted. Items made for 4-H require a different pattern or plan, new skills learned, or use of different tools.
