2019 Creative Writing Judging

To:                              The Writer in You and Writing Project Exhibitors

From:                          Andrea Rees, Extension Educator, 4-H Youth Development

RE:                              Judging Information

Our records show that you are taking project 588 – The Writer in You.  Because these projects need to be read before judging, your writing project needs to be turned into the Extension Office on or before June 20.  This gives the judge time to read each writing project.  If we do not receive your creative writing entry by June 20 then you will not be eligible to be judged on June 26.

Mandatory Important Dates:

  • June 20 – Creative Writing Entries Due
  • June 26 – Project Judging

If you are not able to come to the judging on June 26, you should call the Knox County OSU Extension office at 740-397-0401 for an early judging appointment on June 14 or 21.  Projects that are not judged will be considered for a home project or incomplete project depending on the work that is done in the project by your club advisor.

When submitting your writing project, specify the class you are entering as well as your name, age and county on the cover page of your writing.  The eligible classes are listed on the requirements page.

2019 Rocket Judging

To:                  Rocket Project Exhibitors

From:              Andrea Rees, Extension Educator, 4-H Youth Development

RE:                  Judging Information

4-H members with Rocket projects will have a special judging on Wednesday, June 26 at the Mount Vernon High School Practice Field starting at 5:30 p.m.  The judging is for members with project 501 – Rockets Away (2-liter pop bottles) or project 503 – Rockets Away (Estes-Type).

Members that are unable to attend the above judging day should schedule an early judging appointment on June 14 or 21.  Projects judged early will not be eligible to compete for the Ohio State Fair.  Launching may not be possible on these dates.  Members who are not judged by Wednesday, June 26 will be considered for a home project or incomplete depending on the work that is done by your club advisor.

Items to Bring to Judging

Estes Rockets – Bring your completed project book, rocket and the equipment needed to launch.  Cars are not permitted in judging area so arrangements should be made to carry the battery or other power source to the firing site.

2-Liter Pop Bottle Rockets – Bring your completed project book and at least (1) 2-liter pop bottle rocket ready for launch.  A launcher will be available but please bring a source of compressed air or a tire pump.

All rocket exhibitors must call the Knox County OSU Extension Office at 740-397-0401 to schedule a judging time.  Members with scheduling conflict, such as ball games, should call early for an appointment.  Appointments are on a first come first serve basis.  With several projects to be judged, scheduling will reduce the wait but does not guarantee an exact judging time.
