When applying livestock manure always check with your local Soil & Water Conservation District about proper setback distances and potential application rate restrictions.
Manure application rates should never exceed the moisture holding capacity of the soil. In the western Lake Erie Basin, if the weather forecast calls for a greater than a 50% chance of one-half inch or more of rain in the next 24 hours, any manure applied has to be incorporated either at the time of application or shortly afterwards.
